Duties and Responsibilities:
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
PUBLIC RELATIONS Establishes a positive public relations image of the County through:
· the effective handling of incoming telephone calls;
· personal contact with other employees, citizens, and elected officials; and providing assistance of the highest quality to County citizens
GENERAL Assists with homemaking and personal care services to preserve a safe sanitary home, improved hygiene, and enhance family life. Encourages the client/family to assume as much responsibility as possible for their own care and environment. For clients under a medically directed plan of care provides; non-sterile wound care, assistance with prescribed exercises and rehabilitation activities, simple procedures, help with assistive devices, and appropriate client instructions consistent with training. Provide assistance with self-administered medications. Prioritizes patient home care needs and implements care in keeping with priorities. Maintains patient confidentiality and other patient rights. Reports Home Care status appropriately to the Home Health team.
Qualifications:
TRAINING/EXPERIENCE Education: Successful completion of 75 hour Certified Nursing Assistant course. CPR, mandatory reporting in-services as arranged. Home care experience and or hospital experience preferable. Must have valid Iowa driver's license and current car insurance. DEMONSTRATED SKILLS AND ABILITIES Good communication, organizational, time management, people listening, public relations skills. Home Care skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Good judgement/common sense. Ability to be accurate, efficient and detail oriented. Ability to be patient, possess compassion and uphold patient confidentiality. Ability to handle fast pace, work well under pressure/stress and prioritize effectively. Knowledge of patients rights and responsibilities concerning HCA care/service. Knowledge of family and group dynamics. Ability to make independent decisions regarding Home Care status. Ability to organize and identify a variety of facts and to understand and utilize the techniques of presenting these facts to other members of the Home Health team. Ability to interact with co-workers, physicians, supervisors, members of various boards, volunteers, and the general public in order to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
WORK REQUIREMENTS Various work settings in clients' homes; requires extensive local travel, ability to tolerate temperature extremes in summer/winter; tolerance of vapors, fumes, and household pests. On call work schedule including weekends and holidays. Occasionally handling of toxic materials, contaminated needles and syringes, as well as controlled substances. Frequent contact with patients who have various infectious diseases. Occasionally must lift patients (50 pounds and greater), frequently lift and carry patient care equipment (up to 50 pounds). Physically demanding work requiring very frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling and crouching. Annual adult and child abuse mandatory reporting training every three years.
