Job Summary:
Assists the Pharmacist by filing physician prescriptions for medications for oral, rectal, topical, and injectable use. Managerial duties such as assisting with scheduling and budgeting activities, participates in performance improvement, and staff education. Actively participates in the coordination of interdepartmental program planning and implementation efforts. Always works under the supervision of a Pharmacist. Enters patient demographic and insurance information into the computer system. Enters prescriptions onto patient profiles. Checks patients out at cash register. Keeps Pharmacy clean, neat, organized.
Responsibilities:
- Enters patients' demographic and insurance information into the computer system. Updates any changes, allergies, etc.
- Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients.
- Assists in filling prescriptions. Ensures correct labels are attached to the correct medication.
- Able to calculate figures and amounts relating to dosage calculations when filling various prescriptions ranging from the newborn to the elderly population.
- Recognizes inappropriate dosing bases on available dosage forms for various age groups.
- Assists the Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly. Must be able to identify and understand that there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and know to consults with the Pharmacist if any doubts or questions arise.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
- Checks out patients at register: verifies patient name for the prescription; charges patient accurately; handles cash, check and charge cards.
- Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies.
- Performs assigned quality control activities on schedule.
- Maintains the Pharmacy in a clean, orderly manner.
- Maintains the Pharmacy's inventory of supplies and reorders accordingly.
- Answers the phone in a professional manner; directs calls accordingly.
- Knowledgeable of the lay-out of the store; directs patients appropriately.
- Maintains a professional, helpful, courteous relationship with all pharmacy/store staff.
- Performs other pharmacy related duties as requested or required.
Skills:
- Graduate of a certified Pharmacy Technician Program.
- Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to the geriatric population obtained either in school education or subsequent training.
- Current Pharmacy Technician License in the state of Nebraska.
