Main objective:
The School is currently seeking a full-time Art School English Teacher for its Los Feliz, West Valley, and Pasadena Campuses. As an Art Teacher, you will be responsible for fostering creativity, artistic skills, and cultural appreciation among elementary school students. You will develop and implement an engaging art curriculum, provide hands-on instruction, and create a supportive learning environment that inspires students to explore their artistic talents while adhering to the curriculum standards set forth by the French Ministry of Education.
Selection Criteria
Essential qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
- Teaching certification/license (or equivalent) for elementary education and/or art education
- Previous experience teaching art to elementary school students, preferably in an international school setting
- Strong artistic skills and knowledge across various mediums and techniques
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students
- Passion for fostering creativity, cultural understanding, and artistic expression in young learners
Specific Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential functions:
- Develop and implement an age-appropriate art curriculum for elementary school students aligned with the standards set by the French Ministry of Education and school objectives.
- Plan and deliver engaging art lessons that incorporate a variety of artistic techniques, mediums, and cultural perspectives, while integrating relevant aspects of French culture and art history.
- Provide hands-on instruction and demonstration to teach fundamental art skills such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media.
- Foster creativity, self-expression, and cultural appreciation through art projects and activities, ensuring they reflect the principles outlined by the French Ministry of Education.
- Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel encouraged to explore and develop their artistic abilities within the framework of French curriculum standards.
- Assess student progress through observation, projects, and assignments, and provide constructive feedback to support their growth in accordance with French assessment criteria.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers and school staff to integrate art into interdisciplinary units and school-wide events, incorporating elements of French language and culture where applicable.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, achievements, and upcoming projects or events, using French language when necessary.
- Organize and display student artwork in exhibitions, showcases, and school events to celebrate their accomplishments, following French cultural norms and traditions.
- Stay informed about current trends, resources, and best practices in art education, and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills, including those recommended by the French Ministry of Education.
Supervisor Responsibility:
All employees must supervise students and are expected to comply with our School Child Protection and Mandated Reporter Policies.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work:
Hours of work and days are Monday through Friday.
Travel:
Some travel to other LILA campuses for meetings and events, as well as field trips.
Work Authorization:
J visa holders cannot be considered.
Must be authorized to work in the United States, take and pass the Department of Justice Live Scan, and health requirements of health screening, TB, and immunizations.
