About the Role:
Northside Charter High School is seeking an organized, flexible, and mission-driven Dean of Student Experience to join us in supporting Students and Caregivers at our school. The ideal candidate is fully dedicated to the mission of NCHS and to supporting the success of our students and families. This person will report directly to the Associate Director of Student Experience and Safety and be responsible for implementing our socio-emotional and behavioral intervention through direct practice with students and faculty. The core of this person’s role is to partner with educators and families to ensure that the school is meeting the needs of every student.
Student Experience
- Analyze academic data to lead a proactive RTI process and work closely with the Associate Director of Student Experience and Safety to train teachers on its implementation
- Plan school-wide and grade-specific events alongside the Associate Director of Student Experience and Safety and maintain a calendar of regular events throughout the year
- Maintain a thorough and accurate system of the various mandates the school is required to meet
- Assist teachers to devise and monitor high-impact support plans for students
- Model outstanding instruction and community-building strategies for teachers
- Provide support to teachers, helping them build and create a restorative, structured, and responsive room culture and hold all students to high and consistent restorative behavioral expectations.
- Plan, leads, and oversees family and community events that reflect our vision and values
- Partners with student service team and leadership team to ensure that all students, including those with exceptionalities, have the access and support needed to achieve and demonstrate readiness for the next grade
- Works collaboratively, leverages data, and thinks flexibly to continuously improve school culture systems and decision-making processes that strengthen outcomes
Behavior Management
- Foster a strong and cohesive school culture through restorative justice practices and community building. Model how to build strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and families and support teachers to do the same
- Own the initial response and follow up to Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavior interventions
- Design and deliver professional development sessions on the various socio-emotional learning and special education skills required by the staff at large
- Observe and give feedback on school wide systems and classroom culture
- Ensure all support, interventions, and accommodations to individual students, according to individual support plans.
- Work closely with teachers, family, and leadership to create and implement intervention plans.
- Maintain a calming, restorative space for students to de-escalate and reflect following conflicts
- Co-plan and lead grade-level meetings.
- Leads and manages culture data systems (i.e attendance, referrals, and logical consequences), related communication structures, and data-driven action plans that ensures data is used to strengthen school and classroom culture
- Coaches and develops staff, including planning and leading development, on behavior management, responsive classroom, and social-emotional learning
Candidate Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree or 2 years professional experience
- At least 1-2 years of experience as a Dean in a post-secondary environment preferred or related experience.
- Exceptionally strong organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail
- Adapt at collaborating and building community with others
