Responsible for planning and implementing Individual Education Plans for students and establishing a positive learning environment.
PRIMARY WORKING RELATIONSHIP
- Works with students and staff to foster an atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Works with the principal of the school to which assigned.
- Works with grade-level teachers to implement cooperative teaching efforts and with all special area teachers as deemed appropriate and necessary.
- Works with District Student Services personnel.
- Works with the administration and other teachers to identify and prepare curriculum content and instruction.
- Works with non-certified personnel who serve the school.
- Works with parents to foster and maintain a positive, cooperative working relationship.
- Cooperates with parent groups to promote and maintain programs serving students and the school.
- Maintains cordial and cooperative working relationships with colleagues.
- Works with the parents and the multidisciplinary team to develop goals and objectives for each student.
- Works with the classroom aid to provide appropriate instructional programs and techniques/methods to meet the individual needs of special education children.
- REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold an Illinois Professional Educator License Learning Behavior Specialist 1
- Maintains the standards of teacher performance as contained in the evaluation procedure adopted by the Board of Education.
- Coordinates with the school staff, mainstreaming students into a regular classroom.
- Coordinate with teachers to modify the curriculum to provide a more effective learning environment for special needs students to improve their potential.
- Attends Multidisciplinary conferences and participates in the development of IEPs.
- Develops and implements Annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
- Prepares daily lesson plans.
- Knows accommodations and modifications to support students with special needs, including those with developmental delays, communication disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
- Directs and evaluates individual learning experiences of the students by the established Individual Educational Plan.
- Consult with the Principal, Student Services Director/Assistant Director, Psychologist, Social Worker, Speech Therapist, or other specialists to improve the instructional program, help solve specific problems, and maximize students' progress.
- Maintains adequate and careful records; advises the Principal and Student Services Director/Assistant Director of atypical situations.
- Participates in staff meetings, in-service training programs, and Special Services meetings
- Provides direction and supervision of paraprofessionals
- Prepares progress reports of student achievement for parents, as required, and participates in Parent-Teacher Conferences.
- Helps support the early intervention process as children transition into preschool.
- Makes provisions for care of school property; submits requests for supplies and equipment.
- Adheres to all Board policies along with accompanying administrative regulations.
- Creates a positive environment to promote maximum student growth by maintaining consistent discipline within the classroom/building.
- Monitor children’s behavioral patterns and arrange appropriate interventions if needed.
- Is encouraged to participate in school activities.
