About Us: Neurosurgical, Urological Orthopaedic Unit is an exciting 28-bed adult patient care unit. Our specialties of care include caring for patients with neurosurgical, urological and orthopaedic diagnoses. The most frequent diagnoses and procedures are:
– Lumbar Laminectomy with disc excision, lumbar and cervical fusions, spinal instrumentation, stabilization of spinal fractures, and craniotomies for sub-dural hematomas, tumor and V.P. shunt insertion. Trauma patients whose primary injuries are neurological may be admitted to Northeast 7.
– Radical Prostatectomy, Transurethral resection of the prostate, Transurethral resection of bladder tumor, Radical Cystectomy, radical and partial nephrectomy, Ileal Conduit, percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Management of nephrostomy tubes and three-way foley catheters with continuous bladder irrigation.
–Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) of hip fractures and other bone fractures by closed/open reduction. Includes trauma patients whose primary injuries are orthopaedic.
Northeast 7 receives a large population of trauma patients with complex and challenging multi-system needs. Patients undergoing general surgical procedures may also be admitted as a designated floor for overflow. Patients with all medical-surgical diagnoses may be admitted. The unit has telemetry monitoring capability.
We manage all types of lines and drains including central lines, PICCs, PORTs, PEGs, Nasogastric tubes, abdominal drains, Jackson-Pratts, Hemovacs, Chest tubes, Pleurex drains, nephrostomy tubes and three way foley catheters. You will become an expert in all of these areas and gain valuable skills in pain management and rehabilitative nursing practice.

Orthopaedic, Urological and Neurosurgical-Northeast 7
•NE7 is a 28-bed adult patient care unit. The unit has telemetry monitoring capability.
•Patients undergoing general surgical procedures may be admitted to Northeast 7 as a designated floor for overflow based upon bed availability. Patients with all medical-surgical diagnoses may be admitted.
•The multidisciplinary team collaborates to enable the patient to return to an optimal level of function, tending to physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural needs.

Requirements:
Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, licensed, and currently registered as a nurse in the State of Connecticut. All newly hired Registered Nurses must have current BCLS certification or obtain it within one month of hire.
