We are searching for a
3rd Shift Wastewater Treatment Operator in Newburyport, MA, at Dianne’s Fine Desserts, a subsidiary of Dessert Holdings, during the following hours and within the following compensation range:
11:00 pm – 7:30 am
(Some flexibility required)
$30.67 – $35.77/hr. (+ benefits! See below)
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Operator’s License - Grade 2 Municipal (minimum) preferred.
- (License is achieved via state exam / License is maintained via 10 TCHs per year)
- Certified in First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogens is preferred but not required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and carry it up three flights of stairs required.
- Ability to work in an environment with strong (sometimes unpleasant) aromas required.
- Must be able to work independently.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Meet daily with operators on previous and succeeding shifts regarding the status and strategy of operations for the day.
- Monitor Wastewater Treatment Plant operations.
- Collect samples, test, and record findings on Daily Lab Worksheet.
- Monitor operation of all pumps.
- Monitor operation of warehouse lift station pumps.
- Monitor and adjust mix down units at proper concentration of polymers.
- Monitor and adjust Gas Energy Mixing (GEM) system as needed.
- Monitor and adjust pH adjustment in D-Loop system.
- Ensure proper operation of all components of system and Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR).
- Determine needs for chemical adjustments to system.
- Adjust pumping rates and/or manually add chemicals to system as needed.
- Monitor chemical supply.
- Change barrels and/or mix chemical concentrates with water as needed.
- Add nutrients to mixed liquor tanks as directed.
- Check for presence of microscopic life in mixed liquor.
- Make daily entries into Wastewater Treatment Logbook.
- Record daily flow data on Daily Flow Worksheets.
- Perform laboratory testing (including BOD, TSS, COD, DO, pH, Turbidity).
- Calibrate pH meters using 2-pt buffer method.
- Change circular chart on Partlow Controller on weekly basis.
- Perform preventive maintenance functions (including greasing motors, etc.) per schedule.
- Assist maintenance personnel in repair functions.
- Maintain clean and safe working conditions.
- Perform other wastewater duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must communicate with others to ensure proper operation of Wastewater Plant within permit parameters.
- Must communicate with appropriate personnel to ensure there is no disruption to Production Plant.
- Job tasks will be performed in a safe and professional manner and oriented to prevent the disruption of plant operations.

- Possess normal to excellent manual dexterity and motor skills.
- Possess good eye-hand coordination.
