BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The Category Manager is strong team player responsible for development and implementation of procurement projects that deliver continuous cost, performance and process improvement for an assigned group of products/materials and services. This strategy development work is done in partnership with the various business unit stakeholders across the company. Category strategies include spend analysis/mapping, external market analysis, supplier management and establishing a multi-year project portfolio. This role is responsible for understanding competitive product lines as well as building and maintaining strong relationships with supplier partners to ensure BluSky is competitively positioned. The Category Manager is integral to purchasing projects, discussing and resolving issues and making recommendations to improve business purchasing practices.
Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000
Region: Supports the US, Nationwide, with 25%+ travel required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements and manages category-based procurement process and supplier management. per the well documented Seven Step Sourcing Process.
- Manages and maintains category knowledge (suppliers, performance, cost models, process, and analysis)
- Leads and executes sourcing events and documentation, including RFx, proposal, technical requirements, T&Cs negotiations, drive analytics and TCO comparisons, and implements results.
- Contributes to the team's overall cost savings and cost avoidance goals.
- Builds relationships with key suppliers, business units and functions, and ensures internal customer requirements are achieved.
- Cultivates and manages key supplier relationships for strategic positioning, ensures security of supply, develops scorecards, and conducts business reviews with core suppliers to ensure performance.
- Pursues continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintains close coordination with Estimating, Purchasing and other functional areas as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- This role has no direct reports.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Self-starter with 5+ years purchasing and operations experience with knowledge of construction / restoration materials and services. Strong preference for a candidate with sourcing experience in one of three categories: 1) direct materials within the construction or restoration industry; 2) sourcing and managing temporary labor providers; 3) indirect materials and services including support of the IT, HR, Finance and Marketing functions.
- Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Power BI; strong quantitative, analytical, and problem- solving skills.
- Ability to lead and manage multiple projects often involving other functional areas.
- Results oriented with strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with functional business leaders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with construction estimating / PO software preferred.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, or a related field preferred.

TRAVEL:
Ability to travel a minimum of 25%, more at certain times. Some out-of-area and overnight travel is expected.
