Position Summary:
The Analytical Manager manages the screening and confirmatory analysis of biological fluids for drugs of abuse. This individual leads the auto-chemistry, LC/MS/MS and GC/MS laboratory as it relates to problem solving, enforcement of and compliance to policies and procedures, process optimization, communication and reporting, record keeping and other laboratory operations in a forensic environment.
The Analytical Manager reports to the Director of Laboratory Operations.
Essential Functions:
- Autochemistry screening analysis
- Liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) and Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis
- New employee training and cross-training is in compliance with all lab rules, regulations, standard work, standard operating procedures and associated guidelines.
- In conjunction with the Scientific Director, assures that all methods and validations meet with certification and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with operations leadership to solve work-related problems within or between departments and sites, answering and resolving questions/issues daily
- Allocate work schedules, assignments, and analytical resources to meet production goals, respond to fluctuating workloads, and improve quality and productivity of laboratory operations
- Read and Maintain for the Autochem and Confirmation departments: SOPs, regulations, best practices, guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures in coordination with the Scientific Director and Director of Operations
- Enforce compliance of all policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and best practices for: Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), safety, environmental, hazardous materials, equipment, and security
- Maintain personal accountability for attendance, productivity, training, and incidents with analytical staff.
- Participate in employee performance appraisals
- Ensure that all work is complete, accurate and meets our high-quality standards
- Ensure department inventory is monitored and maintained completing weekly counts and orders.
- Acts as the IT contact for lab issues, system upgrades and new machine installation. Provides technical support for software testing.
- Actively participates in all internal inspections. Technical resource and participant for external audits and inspections.
- Performs or reviews audits of processes, work production, employee knowledge and competency and documents results.
- Schedules staff to assure optimum production and work coverage.
- Responsible to maintain all safeguards as it pertains to Protected health information (PHI)

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in a hard science field required plus 6 year lab experience
- Master's Degree in a hard science field plus 4 years lab experience
- Doctoral Degree in a hard science field plus 2 years lab experience
- Previous supervisory or training experience, required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High degree of computer literacy
- Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems software
- Knowledge of CLIA and CAP (highly desirable)
- Medical terminology (highly desirable)
Physical Requirements:
- Light to moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.) -Heavier weights with assistance
- Sitting & standing for long periods of time
- Repetitive motions and/or prolonged computer use
- Working at a fast pace, subject to many interruptions and both physical and mental stress
