Job Summary:
The Civil & Network Designer is responsible for creating detailed plans and drawings for infrastructure projects, including telecommunications networks, data systems, and civil engineering structures. They combine expertise in civil engineering principles with network design skills to develop efficient, accurate, and compliant designs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create detailed drawings and schematics for data acquisition systems or similar systems based on specifications provided by engineers or project managers.
- Use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to produce precise technical drawings, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company guidelines.
- Adapt to individual client requirements and preferences.
- Collaborate with Structural and A&E groups to draft and review structural and A&E drawings.
- Perform moderate to advanced CAD tasks including site layout and cabling riser diagrams.
- Identify and resolve technical issues in designs, collaborating with the engineering team to find effective solutions.
- Manage timelines and quality on small to medium sized projects with guidance of the Engineering Manager / A&E Manager.
- Check and redline work on assigned projects.
- Develop new templates, tool palettes, macros, LISPs, and other efficiency processes with the A&E Manager.
- Track project status accurately for management reporting.
- Conduct site visits to document conditions for new and modified projects.

Physical Demands
Office work:
- Sitting or standing for long periods, walking, finger dexterity, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity including close vision. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 90% of the time
- Ability to move about the office to access office machinery, attend meetings, etc.
- Must be able to operate a computer and all required programs
- Occasional moving of typical office items up to 10 pounds
Field work:
- Exposure to varying weather elements while performing field work.
- Manual dexterity to open locks, open and close gates and doors.
- Ability to ascend a ladder to obtain measurements, pictures, etc.
Skills and Abilities Required
- Expertise in Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) design principles and implementation.
- Ability to create and interpret head end coax/fiber diagrams for efficient network deployment.
- Skilled in Neutral Host design and/or dedicated DAS design
- Ability to review technical aspects of field work, convey necessary corrections, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Proficiency with RF modeling software such as iBwave or similar tools for predictive network modeling.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD required; experience with AutoCAD 2015 or newer preferred
- Proficiency with AutoCAD work functions including paper space/model space, scaled viewports, blocks, text fields, dynamic blocks, libraries, and templates required
- Strong computer skills required, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to review both technical and non-technical aspects of field work
- Ability to review work completed by others and adequately convey required corrections
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal Engineering, Project Management teams, and customers. Ability to set priorities, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to sketch site layouts, surrounding areas, read plans, and take measurements.
Education and Experience Required
- 3+ years’ experience in DAS/Telecom CAD design or a comparable combination of CAD work and education in CAD design.
Associate’s degree in drafting, architecture, or engineering, preferred.
