Position Description: Service Manager
Reports To: General Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary:
The Service Manager is responsible for and will be held accountable for the successful operation of the
service, parts departments by developing and executing plans to ensure the dealership of its projected
profits This will be accomplished through planning, organizing, coordinating and constantly monitoring
and measuring the activities of the service, parts and body shop departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish monthly forecast for the Parts, Service and Body Shop departments through the
balance of the year for both financial performance and customer satisfaction performance.
- Build a Daily Operating Control (DOC) that the employees can use to keep on track with their
forecast.
- Ensure that every department operates cooperatively in order to meet profitability goals.
- Develop and maintain good working relationship with the manufacturer.
- Formulate policies and establish procedures for all training programs and monitor their
effectiveness.
- Handle all departmental personnel functions to include hiring, evaluating performance,
recognizing accomplishments, counseling/disciplining and termination.
- Review and approve compensation plans for all departmental employees.
- Ensure that department are training and supervising employees for optimum productivity.
- Communicate expectations to department including adherence to company policies and
procedures. Review department performance on an on-going basis to ensure they are
meeting the dealership’s standards for performance.
- Provide enthusiastic leadership and support to employees to build morale.
- Conduct managers’ meetings at scheduled intervals.
- Coordinate with the business office to ensure that records and analyses are maintained
accurately.
- Resolve any customer complaints that department managers have not been able to resolve.
Qualifications:
GM experience will be best.
Minimum 5 years of service management experience.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience
and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with previous automotive
dealership preferred with managerial experience dealing with profit and loss responsibilities.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, financial reports, professional
journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to
questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions,
percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret
an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several
abstract and concrete variables. Ability to logically solve complex personnel/business problems.
