Lead Change Out Mechanic
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- Must possess EPA certification as required by the position.
- HVAC Unitary skills: Installation and retrofit of split systems including heat pumps, furnaces, mini- split systems, roof top units, water source heat pumps and package units.
- Intermediate/Expert skills in controls troubleshooting, wiring diagram interpretation, and parallel/series circuit design.
- 2-5 years of experience as a HVAC Technician or Changeout Technician. Specialization in installations/retrofits.
- HVAC Waterside skills: Pumps, valves, piping specialties, and piping systems to include chilled and heating water, steam and steam condensate, and condensate drainage. Pipe-fitting skills for the pre- fabrication and field installation of commercial piping system
- HVAC Airside skills: Knowledge of basic air distribution design. Exhaust fan installations
- Fan Powered Box and VAV Box installations is a plus.
- Chilled water/DX Air Handler commercial installations is a plus.
- Preferred - Two-year technical degree in related field.
Duties
- Installs and performs retrofits of HVAC systems with intermediate knowledge of piping and/or sheet metal tradecrafts. Types of equipment to include split systems, mini split systems, VRF multizone systems, RTU's, self-contained systems, AHU's and exhaust fans of all types.
- Proficiently operates hand tools, power tools, gauges and measuring/testing equipment.
- Completes quoted projects and demand service calls while maintaining profitability. Develops long-term relationships with customers and explains work performed to the customer's satisfaction.
- Performs sub-contractor management on quoted projects.
- Provide knowledge, training, and guidance to HVAC installers & helpers for them to develop the right skills to be able to perform HVAC installation jobs effectively.
- Participates in after-hours quoted projects (as needed) per customer requirements.
- Safely drives a motor vehicle and trailer as evidenced by past driving performance record. Meets requirements of company vehicle driving policy and adheres to all company safety requirements.
- Purchases materials and issues purchase order numbers to suppliers and sub-contractors.
- Maintains equipment, tools, and inventory stock on service vehicle.
- Perform high/low voltage wiring as needed.
- Perform proper brazing techniques for HVAC refrigeration systems including purging with nitrogen & using wet rags to protect refrigeration components.
- Perform leak checks with high pressured nitrogen.
- Evacuate refrigerant system with vacuum pump and micron gauge.
- Start up HVAC system and check for proper operation.
- Programing thermostats to operate properly with the new system.
- Instruct homeowners on operation of thermostats and filter replacements.
