Staff Engineer - Geotechnical Engineering
PSI, an Intertek company, is searching for a Geotechnical Engineering Staff Engineer to join our Building & Constructionteam in our Columbus, Ohio office. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile management career in architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry!
The Staff Engineer will support the Building and Construction business by providing support int eh field and office for Geotechnical Exploration projects and mentor lab and field Geotechnical Technicians and our local drilling operations.
The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.
What you’ll do:
- Execute geotechnical project assignments including, field exploration and laboratory services, engineering analysis and report preparation.
- Assist with project management and maintain communication with client
- Prepare proposals and reports completing commitments made to clients.
- Mentoring and training of laboratory and field technician staff.
- Actively participate in professional and technical organizations.
- Expand knowledge base in Geotechnical Engineering
What it takes to be successful in this role:
- BS Civil Engineering or related degree preferred
- BS/MS in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering is highly desired
- EI registration in the State of Ohio or able to obtain within 1 year is preferred.
- 1-5 years of related experience preferred
- Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential
- Rudimentary understanding and knowledge of geotechnical engineering and related disciplines with the ability grow knowledge base in Geotechnical Engineering
- Must speak and write English fluently
- Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds occasionally. Additional requirements may be needed for specific sites/locations.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound.
- Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
- Ability to climb occasionally
