Overview
This position (Staff Assistant III) is embedded in the new College of Veterinary Medicine at Utah State University (USU CVM), which currently is in the process of being established. The successful applicant will primarily assist the Interim Department Head, who also serves as Associate Dean for Research, in the administrative/clerical functions of the new and interdisciplinary department of Veterinary, Clinical, and Life Sciences (VCLS). During the initial stage of building the infrastructure for the CVM, additional assistance as needed to the CVM administration will also be part of the duties associated with this position. Forming new administrative and organizational structures in these exciting foundational times of the new CVM will require flexibility, enthusiasm, and initiative. Responsibilities
-
Performs office duties, including answering phones, directing calls to appropriate parties, data entry, filing, and other general duties as assigned.

Provides administrative support, including scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings/conferences, taking meeting minutes, and maintaining/ordering supplies.

Serves as a liaison with other departments and constituencies in the resolution of matters concerning the activities and operations of the department.

Serves as point of contact for the department/college with the Office of Research and School of Graduate Studies

Oversees access requests to campus buildings/rooms/areas for all faculty/staff/students.

Supports the tracking of all CVM equipment.

Greets and directs visitors.

Sorts, screens, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.

Composes various standard documents, correspondence, and reports.

May update website content.

May provides support for departmental programs and projects.

Conducts research, compiles data, and prepares papers for consideration and presentation by executives, committees, and directors.

Assists students, staff, and superiors with highly varied, complex, and non-recurring questions and/or problems.

May work independently to provide high-level administrative support to a large or complex program.

Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification:
-
Four years of experience; or an associate degree/technical training plus two years of experience; or a bachelors degree is required.

Currently, the USU CVM participates in a "2+2" program with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University and the broader Washington - Idaho - Montana - Utah (WIMU) Regional Program in Veterinary Medicine that provides instruction to 30 students in each class cohort.
