Summary: Ensures the efficient operation of the operating facility and its equipment by performing mechanical functions (i.e., replacements, installs, upgrades, etc.) and general maintenance of equipment. Identifies and prevents ongoing maintenance failures, reacts quickly to unforeseen events, and has the technical and mechanical ability to complete repairs. Assists in the maintenance of tools, power equipment and the inventory of spare parts for the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify, repair, install and maintain conveyors and equipment and the physical building. Understand equipment schematics related to hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical processes. Possess operational understanding of the production equipment needed to make adjustments in mechanical mechanisms to achieve successful product packaging specifications.
- Troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic circuits associated with reading and comprehending equipment manuals or technical bulletins. Installs electrical wiring, conveyors, and equipment; new electrical services, wiring during remodeling projects; repairs electrical equipment and control circuits; replaces faulty electrical switches; repairs material handling equipment. Possess the electrical knowledge to perform electrical connections for 120-volt circuits and 480-volt 3 phase motor connections. Wire electrical controls utilizing 2 and 3 wire control sequences.
- Perform and complete assignments or Preventative Maintenance (PM) tasks and Work Orders (WO) distributed through computer-based PM/WO system. Prioritize and complete work orders and ensure any required documentation is also completed. Troubleshoot and repair motor starter components. Ensure conveyors and equipment are maintained pursuant to our preventative maintenance programs and assist in the development and maintenance of all preventative maintenance programs.
- Exhibit a functional understanding of safety rules (e.g., powered industrial trucks, fall protection, L.O.T.O., hot work permitting, etc.) and consistently use personal protective equipment as required and as prescribed by the company. Maintain departmental tools, equipment, and spare parts inventory, and identify needed parts from the inventory sheets and/or manuals and provide in/out documentation for parts inventory usage.
- Ability to read and understand available equipment manuals and updates to identify and locate required lubrication points, and the ability to utilize mechanical aptitude in determining lubrication constraints as specified therein. Competency in the utilization of various measuring tools to determine volume, pressure, and process continuity. Perform mechanical connections for pneumatic and hydraulic hose connections.
- Performs routine walking and visual inspections of the production floor in observation of unsafe acts or conditions; takes immediate corrective action where necessary to develop and meet plant safety goals. Is actively involved in safety efforts.
- Reports food safety and quality issues, corrective actions, and preventative measures to management. Ensure basic hygiene training, GMP’s, HACCP, allergen control, food safety and quality requirements and actively supports prerequisite programs as required.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience with electrical systems, conveyors, power equipment vehicles within a warehouse or distribution.
- Excellent reading, communication, and organizational skills. Must be proficient in the use of a Personal Computer (PC) and related business software. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other associates of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
