InSite Energy Engineer
InSite seeks bright, motivated people who are strongly interested in improving all aspects of a building’s performance. The Energy Engineer is a key contributor to the delivery of value to InSite’s customers through our building systems optimization and energy efficiency solutions. This position requires knowledge of commercial building systems with an understanding of the drivers for building performance and energy consumption. This individual will possess engineering and analytical skills that will enable them to interpret and evaluate data from various sources within a building, and to integrate the intelligence derived from these data sources with information gathered during engineering field work. These efforts generate opportunities for operational improvement and validates that implemented efficiency measures are generating long-term value. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organization skills with an interest in a wide range of areas including Energy Management, Sustainability, Energy & Resource Analytics, Smart Building Technologies, Building Controls Systems and Systems Optimization.
Position Summary:
The Energy Engineer will help support InSite’s Professional Engineers to ensure a strategic, streamlined and consistent approach to working directly with customers to deliver value through InSite’s various building optimization solutions. This individual will be responsible for discovering optimization opportunities directly via fault detection and diagnostics software, in-field energy audits, technical discussions with building operators, and analytics from other building data sources. They will also be responsible for quantifying and communicating value derived from these efforts to InSite’s customers.
Responsibilities:
The Energy Engineer will report to InSite’s Vice President of Services. The candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Commit to 50% travel for the first 12 months of employment
- Conduct energy engineering field work such as energy audits, measurement and verification of energy efficiency measures and other engineering tasks
- Develop rules and other analytical techniques to uncover operational anomalies through use of Fault Detection and Diagnostic tools
- Perform calculations to quantify the value associated with identified energy efficiency measures
- Document and present findings and recommendations internally and in support of customer facing deliverables and presentations
- Communicate effectively with strategic partners and vendors
- Develop and maintain productive client relationships
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of relevant industry experience in MEP Design, Commissioning, Energy Auditing and/or FDD
- BS in relevant engineering discipline: Mechanical, Architectural, Energy, or related
- Understanding of building mechanical and electrical equipment functions and use
- Knowledge of HVAC system controls applications and relevant hardware and software products
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including MEP drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation
- Experience performing saving calculations for building efficiency measures
- Experience conducting Measurement and Verification (M+V) of implemented efficiency measures is desirable
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to influence others to act
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities autonomously; agility to adjust quickly based on changing business dynamics
- Ability to learn and adopt new ideas and technologies
- Strong computer skills with Microsoft products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other relevant software
- Must be physically able and willing to conduct site inspections and field work (climb ladders, walk on roofs, etc.)
- Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for data-driven methods of investigation
- EIT, or the ability to obtain EIT within 12 months, required
- Professional Engineer license preferred
- Candidate should be based in the Philadelphia or Washington, DC area
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
