Summary:
The Associate position serves as an on-the-job clinical experience, under the supervision of a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Reports to Clinical Supervisor.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in marriage and family therapy, counseling, social work, psychology/counseling with an emphasis on marriage & family therapy or related field; pursuing licensure as a marriage and family therapist (MFT) or professional clinical counselor (PCC); experience working with adults, adolescents and children with addiction issues; ability to work well as a member of a multidisciplinary team; familiarity with charting and record keeping; current malpractice insurance ($1,000,000/3,000,000 coverage); valid California Driver’s License and evidence of insurance coverage; current CPR and First Aid certificates. Professional appearance and pleasant mannerism. Must pass criminal background check.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions with agency clients; their children; and family members, as needed.
- Maintain all charting and other records as required by IVRS, County, State and all other pertinent local agencies
- Assess and evaluate adults and their children according to DSM 5 and ASAM criteria. Refer for additional or ancillary services as clinically appropriate.
- Diagnose according to the DSM 5 and develop comprehensive, individualized treatment plans addressing issues presented by clients and their children.
- Conduct lethality assessments and mental status exams with adult male and female participants in the agency’s batterers’ treatment program.
- Communicate client progress with third-party monitors (CPS social workers, probation and parole officers, family members, etc.) in accordance with federal guidelines on client confidentiality.
- Provide feedback and input to program staff regarding recommendations for improving treatment and service delivery for program participants.
- Participate in other agency programs as necessary (e.g., Family Support Group, Parenting Group, Batterers’ Treatment Group, etc.).
- Adhere to agency guidelines and protocols for dealing with clients and their family members.
- Meet weekly for a minimum of one hour of individual supervision and two hours group supervision with the clinical supervisor/director.
- Provide supervisor with all necessary forms and paperwork required for adequate supervision.
- Keep supervisor informed regarding any clinical concerns regarding agency clients.
- Adhere to professional standards and codes of conduct as established for the practice of Marriage & Family Therapy by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy (AAMFT), and Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).
- Work cooperatively with treatment program staff.
- All other duties as assigned either by agency management or educational institution.
