The Finance team at Inozyme Pharma is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, and experienced accounting professional to fill acritical role leading accounting operations function. This position is responsible for the management, oversight and integrity of the General Ledger and Accounts Payable. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate possesses strong analytical and collaboration skills, and is comfortable respectfully challenging the status quo, always looking for opportunities for improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the smooth execution of monthly and quarterly closing processes to drive timely financial reporting, including the preparation and review of journal entries, as well as the scrutiny of balance sheet reconciliations, while aligning with U.S. GAAP and Company standards
- Analyze and provide commentary on the balance sheet and income statement variances.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly and ad-hoc reporting for senior management.
- Manage, coach, and develop two direct reports
- Prepare various financial statement disclosures and supporting documentation for our quarterly and annual SEC filings
- Assist with maintenance of internal control framework and associated documentation requirements
- Act as a key point of contact for external auditors and assist with the preparation of workpapers in advance of audits.
- Recommend and manage the implementation of new accounting standards, and best practices regarding policies and procedures
- Oversight of Accounts Payable
- AP maintenance in addition to creation of informative accounts payable reports and other GL reports to meet business needs.
- Take a lead role in special projects focused on improving the quality and efficiency of accounting processes, particularly to streamline and shorten the close process
- Assist in the implementation of new financial systems, as needed
- Manage additional projects and requests, as needed
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred
- Experience working for an early to mid-stage biotech company required
- 7-10 years of experience in accounting, preferably with public accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of fundamental accounting principles, including U.S. GAAP and SOX 404 requirements
- Prior employee management/supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others and a strong desire to make a positive impact
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving and communication skills, including the ability to translate financial concepts to individuals outside of Finance
- Motivated and flexible team player with the ability to wear multiple hats and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Ability to identify inefficiencies, provide suggestions, and drive positive change
- Experience working in a full-scale ERP system, and the ability to quickly learn and understand various financial accounting systems. Experience with systems such as NetSuite, Concur, Shareworks, and Active Disclosure a plus
