POSITION SUMMARY: The Sterile Processing Technician is assigned duties performing decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment throughout the surgery center, utilizing infection control and safety practices always.
SPECIALTIES: Spine, Plastics, Pain Management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Initiates and maintains sterile technique within SPD; operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to parameters of sterilization in accordance with each respective IFU
· Correctly peel-packs supplies/instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspects each instrument for use, function, completeness, and cleanliness.
· Maintains appropriate records, and monitors quality control and infection control standards.
· Retrieves malfunctioning instruments, reports it to the SPD manager and follows up to ensure repairs are completed.
· Familiar with SPD specific policies and procedures, location of IFU’s and AAMI manual
· Completes orientation specific to SPD, mandatory annual education, in-services, and competencies as required
· Maintain meticulous records and logs as required
· When time allows will be active in the OR Corridor to ensure prompt instrument delivery and retrieval pre- and post-surgery.
· Demonstrates proper care of instrumentation and all equipment as per manufacturer’s instructions for use. Ensures instructions for use are always followed.
· Ensure case readiness in operating suite with regards to instruments and prepares for next day’s cases to include requisition of special request items
· Assists throughout the surgical center to perform additional duties such as: restock supplies and carts as necessary when there are no trays to me immediately cleaned and cared for
· Practices within regulations as required by NJDOH, AAAHC, and CMS
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Completion of a course for sterile processing from an accredited school.
· Certification by IAHCMM, NICHSPDP, CBSPD
· At least 3 years of work experience as a sterile processing technician
