Statement of Primary Duties: Oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Department.Serves as the department head and evaluator for the districts Health, Wellness, and Physical Education Department.Statement of Job Specific DutiesEvaluates coaches annually.Coordinates the hiring of coaches.Will oversee academic and medical requirements of student athletes.Ensures compliance with all MIAA rules, reporting requirements and communications.Responsible for preparation of an annual budget for the athletic program, and oversees the bidding, ordering, distribution and security of all athletic activities, materials, equipment and supplies in compliance with Ch. 30B.Collection , reporting, and deposits of monies received from interscholastic eventsDevelop close and productive relationships with feeder athletic programs/youth programs in townCommunication and support of the efforts of the boosters organizationServes on various advisory and project committees as requested andrequired.Arranges for transportation related to athletic activities, maximizing thenumber of teams that can travel together to minimize travel cost.Schedules games, fields, gyms or other facilities, buses, officials,timekeepers, and all other matters necessary for the efficient operation of theathletic programs.Coordinates student athlete records and awards.Interacts with Town officials, parents, students and communitymembers on issues relating to the athletic department.Coordinates Athletic Council to meet a minimum of three times each year.Coordinates mandatory parent meetings prior to each sports season.Runs a Captains Council.Promote yearly workshops for every athlete on good sportsmanship and fairplay and drug and alcohol education, steroid information and harassment.Represents Winthrop's athletes at state and regional meetings.Completes all MIAA and DESE forms and paperwork as required.Ensure the program is in compliance with MIAA regulations, and act as a liaison to the MIAA.Ensure all participating students are in compliance with school eligibility requirements, including physicals and head injury managementEnsure the supervision of all home athletic events in compliance with MIAA requirementsAssists students with the NCAA Clearinghouse processCoordinate inventory and ordering of Phys Ed and Health suppliesPositively promotes athletics in the media and in person.Checks student athletic eligibility regularly using the student information systemWorks with the Principal and Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability to oversee the implementation of the Health and Physical Education curriculum frameworks.Oversees, observes, and evaluates Wellness staff - district-wide.Performs other such duties as may be required by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee, and policies of theSchool Committee.
