Position: School Security Officer - Middle School of Plainville
Job Goal:
The School Security Officer will assist in maintaining the safety, security and welfare of all students, faculty, staff and visitors in the assigned school. The position supports the Director of School Safety and Security and Administrative staff with enforcing policies and procedures for safe and orderly schools at the building level.
Qualifications:
Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of fifteen (15) years prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer with an organized local police department or the Division of State Police within the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection and provide positive references from each prior employer serviced in a law enforcement capacity.
Must have been certified by the Police Officer Standards and Training Council while serving as a sworn law enforcement officer, and must have retired or separated in good standing from an organized local police department or the Division of State Police as required by PA.
Valid CT State Drivers License required
Individual must exhibit interpersonal skills which relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.
Reports To: Director of School Safety and Security
Salary: Hourly rate of pay is $20-$25 per hour based on experience. This is a school year position, which consists of 180 days.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school building, grounds and parking lots
- Detects, investigates, and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles or activities
- Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
- Supervises and directs pupil movement
- Notifies the administrative staff, police, fire department or other appropriate authority of security or emergency situations.
- Prepares written reports to the Director of School Safety and Security on school security issues.
- Assists with fire drill and other emergency building evacuations
- Maintains security records, logs and reports
- Ability to supervise student and monitor restrooms.
- Good communication skills required.
- Assumes other related duties as assigned by the Director of Safety and Security and/or Superintendent of Schools.
