Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position will build and sustain the capacity of the on-site functions as the Accounting Lead representing the Post-Acute Care (PAC) service lines. With wide latitude for independent initiative, follow the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles will ensure that stewardship of the accounting transactions is recorded properly. Reporting directly to the PAC Assistant Controller, the Accounting manager will establish, monitor and improve accounting practices of both financial and administrative systems and process for the five nursing home facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Strong Accounting Acumen
- Must be able to apply the GAAP standards to the Post-Acute Care Expense and Revenue operational transactions.
Financial Analysis and report preparations
- Achieves accounting operational objectives by contributing accounting information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing business plans; implementing production, productivity, quality and customer-service standards; resolving problems, completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements and proposing changes.
- Meets accounting financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditure, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions.
- Track, monitor and confirms financial status by monitoring revenue and expenses; coordinating the collection, consolidation and evaluation of financial data; and preparing special reports.
- Maintains accounting controls by establishing a chart of accounts and defining accounting policies and procedures.
- Focus on planning, implementing and managing the finance accounting activities through the creation of reports, summary narratives, forecast models and programmatic review of projections using the various in-house data sets of the five PAC sites.
- Fosters a proactive and transparent interaction with the PAC stakeholders through in-depth summary with recommendation at each month end close.
- Direct on-site support to senior leadership and departments using the Peoplesoft Accounting systems.
- Develop and lead the execution and monitoring of business plans with recommendations on improvements to enhance the efficiency through building cohesive teams.
- Willing to travel to all five sites with the Post-Acute Care service line as required to provide the finance presence requested by each site.
- Address Corporate Accounting inquires as they arise.
- Support the Budget department with establishment of facility budgets utilizing the general ledger as a source data set.
- Evaluates and makes improvements to accounting processes while ensuring that practices comply with organization accounting policies and applicable laws and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by at least twenty-four (24) credits in Accounting, including at least one course each in Advanced Accounting, Auditing, Cost Accounting and Taxation, and four (4) years of full-time, paid, professional accounting or auditing experience, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory or consultative capacity; or
2. High School graduation or equivalent and twenty-four (24) credits in Accounting from an accredited college, including one course each in Advanced Accounting, Auditing, Cost Accounting and Taxation, and eight years (8) of full-time, paid, professional accounting or auditing experience, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory, or consultative capacity; or
3. A valid New York State C.P.A. license and one year of full-time, paid, professional accounting or auditing experience in a supervisory or consultative capacity; or
4. A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must either be a C.P.A. or have at least twenty-four credits in Accounting from an accredited college including at least one course each in Advanced Accounting, Auditing, Cost Accounting and Taxation, and must have one year of responsible supervisory or consultative experience. Graduate study in accounting in an accredited college may be substituted for the required professional experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of one year of full-time, paid, professional accounting or auditing experience in (1) above.
Department Preferences
- To develop, monitor and create reports on the financial status of the facility.
- Strong accounting acumen with active working knowledge of budget administration, financial forecasting, planning and analysis
- Excellent written, oral communication, presentation and customer service skills.
- Intermediate to advance use of the MS Office programs, primarily with excel and access.
