Cake Decorator / Designer
ABOUT US
We are a popular, vibrant, creative wholesale & retail bakery located in the heart of downtown Brooklyn, blocks from the Barclays Center. Famous for our custom cakes, sweet and savory pies, Ring Dings and cookies, our products are a modern take on classic favorites.
POSITION
We are looking for a cake artist with strong artistic ability to create edible artwork that ranges from simpler stock elements on our standard decorated cake line, to complicated, intricate work for more high-end orders and projects. Prior commercial experience in sugar/edible mediums is required. We are not interested in home trained decorators at this time.
Minimum of 4 days per week. We are a fast paced bakery with many moving parts, this position is an excellent experience for someone interested custom cake/edible sculpture as well as the day-to-day operations of a small business.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Eye for composition and color
- Creativity and artistic skills must; demonstrated ability to sculpt/paint realistically.
- Steady hand, neat, strong attention to detail (meticulous but mindful of time it takes to execute tasks)
- Organized, clean, able to take direction and interpret drawings to create a final product
- Good communication and adaptable time management skills a MUST (asking questions when unsure is an absolute requirement).
- Experience working with Fondant and / or Gum Paste.
- Ability to Pipe with a piping bag - both text and decorations.
- Experience with Royal icing and decorating cookies
- Able to crumb coat and cover cakes with fondant - experience with multiple layers required
- Must have commercial experience working in a retail environment
