Barista Role Responsibilities:
- Sales and service of specialty coffee and tea beverages.
- Sales and service of baked goods, menu items, ready-to-go cakes, and miscellaneous retail items.
- Greeting all customers with fast, friendly, and personalized service.
- Accurately ringing sales orders into cash register and counting back change to customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Answering phone calls in a courteous and friendly manner and taking concise messages
- Demonstrating knowledge of our food and beverage menu.
- Completing daily opening, mid-shift, or closing side tasks.
- Maintaining a clean and sanitized work area.
- Adherence to health and safety guidelines.
- Correct following of recipes and presentations for food and beverage items.
- Punctuality and consistent attendance.

As a bustling café and bakery, our Front of House team tackles a variety of tasks, making this an exciting and robust position. This role combines customer service, food handling, barista work, and the potential to be trained on consulting customers about cake orders. We offer a full menu of espresso drinks, which are hand-crafted by our team. Our delicious breakfast and lunch menus are served from 7 am to 4 pm every day, both in-store and through our drive through. We also offer ready-to-go cakes and a case full of pastries and desserts. Our staff are friendly, helpful, and trained to help customers no matter the reason for their visit. This means no two days will look the same, and you will have a variety of tasks that fill each day.
Our ideal candidate has worked in either the food or coffee industry in the past; dessert/cake knowledge is a plus but not required. The most important qualities we look for are a positive, task-oriented attitude, and a desire to help others—coworkers and customers alike. Other things we are looking for include dependability and the ability to handle a fast-paced environment.
We are seeking both FULL and PART-TIME candidates for this role. Compensation is dependent on experience, and our starting pay is $13/hour plus tips. We love seeing our employees grow and flourish, so we will always promote from within wherever possible. For those with the proper skills, advancement into wedding cake consultations, key holder positions, and management positions are all possibilities.
Our Front of House team is made up of Baristas and Cake Consultants. Baristas focus solely on FOH operations, and Consultants have the same responsibilities as Baristas, plus the addition of helping with custom cake orders. Our café serves up a variety of specialty coffee drinks, all featuring local Topeca coffee, and our breakfast and lunch menus are available every day from 7 am to 4 pm. The ideal candidate for the Barista role will have worked in food and/or coffee industry in the past. Prior experience with cakes and desserts is a plus, but not required. All Front of House team members are required to start as Baristas, with the opportunity to train and be promoted to a Cake Consultant. Taking cake orders requires active listening, anticipating needs, and an interest in design and cake trends is a huge help.
Our Cake Consultants are well versed in cake options and designs, as well as limitations and restrictions. There is a great deal of planning and knowledge that goes into custom cake designs, and the goal of our Consultants is to make the ordering process easy and stress-free. Consultants work directly with our decorators and are the liaison between the decorating team and the customers. All Cake Consultants are hired on first as Baristas, and based on aptitude for the role, will be invited to train for cake consulting if it’s a good fit.
