WIC NUTRITIONIST
JOB DESCRIPTION
ICAP is a private, non-profit agency mobilizing private and public sector resources to help low and moderate-income people improve their living conditions. The Women, Infant and Children’s Program provides nutrition information and support to pregnant women, post-partum women, infants and children up to age five. The Nutritionist is responsible for duties specific to high-risk participants and serves as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Driver’s License; consent to and successful review of BMV review
- Consent to and successful review of Limited Criminal History Review
- Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Nurse (RN)
- Registration eligible to write the exam for the Commission on Dietetic Registration
OR
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science, which includes a degree major in at least one of the following areas: Dietetics, Nutrition or Nutrition Sciences, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition or Clinical Nutrition
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform all services as directed by the WIC Coordinator/Site Supervisor
- Evaluates WIC client’s nutritional status through dietary assessments and consults and makes recommendations in relation to nutritional needs, family income, cultural food patterns, home facilities, and modifications in diet
- Provides individual nutrition counseling for high-risk clients and other clients requiring individual follow-up
- Create and tailor food packages that are appropriate to the client’s needs
- Procures and assesses information related to client nutritional risk factors and makes therapeutic recommendations based on Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics guidelines
- Document assessments, evaluations, counseling and referrals
- Maintains related files and records for documentation
- Counsels and educates prenatal and breastfeeding clients with nutrition information and education opportunities that promote and support the benefits of breastfeeding
- Performs certification duties such as lab tests, height, weight and hemoglobin
- Promotes community awareness of nutritional needs and the WIC program services; may serve as the Nutrition spokesperson for the agency to the degree delegated by the supervisor
- Well organized with excellent time management skills
- Assists in WIC EBT issuance
- All other duties assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sit for long periods at a desk and computer in a climate controlled office
- Able to walk, bend, crouch, climb stairs, lift up to 40 lbs
- Exposure to communicable and infectious diseases with personal protection provided
- Potential contact with emotionally charged clients, and families
- May be subjected to spills (liquid and solid), equipment noise, chemical odors, and small confined work areas; Category I for exposure to blood and body fluids
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the WIC Coordinator and/or Site Supervisor.

SALARY: DOQ
HOURS PER WEEK: 35
WEEKS PER YEAR: 52

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
