Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Shifts Available:
Mornings (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) – Part-Time
Mornings (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM) - Part-Time
Evenings (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM) - Part-Time
*All shifts require Nurses to work Every Other Weekend

Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing basic medical attention to sick and/or injured residents and assessing their wellbeing. Their duties include checking vital signs, recording a patient’s medical history, and assisting patients with hygiene.
Essential Functions
- Provides confident, efficient, and complete care within established scope of practice as permitted by licensure and outlined in the resident's individual care plan.
- Supervises nursing staff (i.e., Care Partners (CNAs)) to ensure appropriate, person-centered care is always delivered.
- Assesses and identifies individual needs upon admission and periodically.
- Provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to residents, friends, and families.
- Identifies issues and develops appropriate, person-centered plans in collaboration with all healthcare disciplines.
- Provides person-centered education to enable residents, friends, and family to understand their condition, medications, and self-care skills.
- Answers questions and addresses concerns about individual health and wellness concerns as appropriate.
- Establishes personal rapport with residents and responsible persons, if applicable, and other persons involved in resident care.
- Encourages, engages in and facilitates person-centered activities and recreation with the goal of resident life enrichment.
- Anticipates resident-specific needs based on established rapport and/or plan of care.
- Educates nursing staff (i.e., care partners) on appropriate and person-centered clinical needs.
- Answers call bells within a reasonable amount of time, acknowledging resident’s request(s) and needs.
- Participates in care plan meetings as the primary caregiver.
- Reports concerns and/or changes in resident’s physical, psychological and social conditions to R.N. or D.O.N

- Ability to recognize, promote and respect the individuality and abilities of each resident and to maintain the standards of the Admiral’s philosophy of care.
- Ability to work as a team member within the Health Services Department, with other staff, as well as with residents, their families, and friends.
- Leadership and organizational skills
- Strong supervisory skills
- Ability to maintain an even temperament in demanding situations, especially during emergencies.
- Must be flexible to cover emergencies, training, and other departmental needs.
Education and Experience
- Graduated from an approved school of Practical Nursing and possess current licensure by the State as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- 1 year of experience as a Practical Nurse in a Skilled Nursing Facility unit, preferred.
- Competency in the administration of medications and treatments, required.
- Basic Life Support certification
Physical Demands

- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and for most of the shift.
- Ability to stoop, push, pull, lift and transfer residents weighing from 50 to 250 pounds.
- Able to wear gloves and other protective equipment.
- Generally pleasant conditions, but possible exposure to unpleasant sights, sounds and odors.
- May have to deal with unpleasant or uncomfortable situations involving difficult residents and/or families.
- Normal healthcare setting risks.
- Possible muscle strains due to lifting.
- Possible verbal abuse and physical injury from residents
