Position Summary:
The Director of Materials Management provides leadership and vision in the delivery of materials management with the Hospital. This role oversees the functioning of the Purchasing Department, Storeroom, Equipment Room and Mail Room. It involves negotiating and issuing formal bids to establish contracts with vendors for supplies and equipment to realize costs savings for the hospital.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of service. Monitors service and staff performance in relation to those standards, policies and procedures. Develops standards of accountability and reporting.
- Maintains effective interdepartmental, intradepartmental and agency relationships and communications to foster a service attitude and cooperatively provide the highest quality of service to the Hospital.
- Seeks and retains personnel with the qualifications and competence to support the skill level required and the goals established for the department. Hires, trains, develops and evaluates staff timely and effectively.
- Monitors staffing to ensure operation within established operating budget guidelines.
- Maintains leadership accountability and responsibility in identifying problems, formulating plans and initiating corrective measures.
- Seeks ways to improve quality, increase utilization and decrease the cost of services.
- Maintains departmental compliance with all regulatory/accreditation requirements. Develops and implements policies and procedures that direct and support the provision of service within regulatory guidelines.
- Participates in performance improvement activities. Plans and implements strategies to determine long range plans for programs, facilities, equipment and human resources and the continuous assessment improvement and maintenance of the quality of services provided.
- Reviews contracts and prices established by group purchasing organizations such as the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council and National Medical Enterprises.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Healthcare experience is highly desirable
