Sax LLP is searching for in-house General Counsel specializing in professional liability, risk management and contract review and negotiation to join our team.
This role may be worked remotely, or on a hybrid basis out of our firm’s New Jersey offices (Parsippany or Ewing) or New York City office. While candidates may work on a fully remote basis, the ideal candidate would be located in the greater New York City metropolitan area, to allow for attendance of board meetings and leading quarterly Risk Management Committee meetings.
Responsibilities:

Provide technical expertise and guidance in risk management and contract law to rapidly growing public accounting firm.

Apply risk management and contract best practices throughout the firm’s service lines, including assurance, tax, wealth management and advisory services.

Assess professional liability matters and areas of concern for the Firm.

Respond to subpoenas related to client litigation.

Analyze and review contracts and agreements, including engagement letters and external contracts with vendors.

Review and negotiate contracts, including Master Service Agreement (MSA) for clients, and Statement of Work (SOW) defining service being provided, in order to optimize and streamline client service experience.

The candidate will be involved in HR matters, such as ensuring employee handbook compliance with employment laws and regulations of multiple states. Knowledge of state employment laws is a plus.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor required.

Candidate must be barred and in good standing with a state bar; New Jersey and/or New York bar licensing strongly preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant legal work experience in a professional services setting (e.g., law firm, public accounting firm, or consulting firm)

Deep knowledge of risk management, client service, and contract law
