Are you an experienced boatbuilder and craftsperson looking for a great career opportunity with a homegrown Puget Sound company?
Who We Are: Gig Harbor Boat Works is a custom builder of high-quality rowing and sailing boats. Our designs are modern fiberglass reproductions of traditional wood boats from the days of working sail. We are a small family-run business well-known for our small craft boats on the West Coast, and have a growing following nationwide (and even around the world). Our small-but-mighty team is looking for a new addition to our boatbuilding crew based in our new Gig Harbor production shop.
Who You Are: An experienced boat builder who works independently and can build high-quality products on time and on budget. This position is in the assembly shop, so skills in woodworking, rigging, and assembly are required. Familiarity with the open-mold lamination process is a plus (gelcoat, layup, trimming and finishing.) The ideal candidate will also have experience leading a production team, so this builder can also serve as a shop foreman when the production manager is not on site.
Day-to-day Tasks / Qualifications:
- Frequent work with power tools and hand tools -- a steady hand operating machinery like table saws, jigsaws, sanders, and routers is a must.
- Light fabrication --trimming and fitting of marine parts made from carbon phenolic or HDPE.
- Skills in joinery and carpentry. While our boats are fiberglass, they do have wood trim options and we are known for our high-quality brightwork. Finishing includes epoxy and varnish, sanding, smoothing, buffing and polishing. Must use appropriate precautions/PPE when working with solvents or epoxy.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time well among multiple ongoing projects.
- Attention to detail -- Must be neat, clean and organized.
- A clear communicator -- who can both give and follow instructions well.
- Quality and consistency are key -- there’s no cutting corners when you build a boat, or the water ends up on the wrong side of it!
- Skills in open-mold lamination process (gelcoat, layup, trimming and finishing) is a plus.

- Live within commuting distance of Gig Harbor WA
- Routinely lift up to 75 lbs.
