JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the continued operation of all three paper balers and the cardboard baler in the baler area. Also responsible for the proper preparation, storage and disposition of all scrap bales. Performs regular maintenance on balers and forklift and performs minor repairs within employee’s ability to correct. Assists in bindery when not occupied in baler room

REQUIRED TASKS:
Assures the continued smooth operation of all three paper balers and the cardboard baler in the baler area.
Assures that all bales conform to buyer specifications regarding size, type of paper in the bales, and proper baling, so the bales can be successfully sold.
Removes bales from balers and properly stores them until they are shipped out. Keeps baler area and surrounding area as clean and neat as possible at all times.
Performs minor repairs on balers as needed - within the capabilities of the operator.
Reports all major repair problems to supervisor and/or company Maintenance Department for resolution.
Performs daily check on forklift, completes report, and places report on appropriate clipboard on forklift service board.
Empties waste bins from presses on a regular basis.
Processes pallets of scrap materials from bindery through balers on a daily basis.
Day shift operator only:
Responsible for checking in all propane cylinders to assure accuracy in delivery and billing.
Schedules with trucking companies, all pick ups of full trailers and delivery of empty trailers.
Responsible for ordering all materials and supplies for baler area.

Assists in other areas of bindery when not occupied in baler area.
Knows and practices all company safety policies and procedures, both in baler area, and when operating forklift.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
SPECIFIC EDUCATION:
Must have a minimum of one year’s successful experience as a forklift and/or roll clamp operator.
Must have a proven record of safe forklift/roll clamp driving.
Must have basic mechanical ability.
Must have sufficient fluency in the English language to read all documents pertaining to this position, to receive and understand instructions, and to communicate with supervisors and co-workers.
GENERAL EDUCATION:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions; to deal with standardized situations with occasional or no variables in or from those situations encountered on the job.
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers; to multiply and divide 10's and 100's by 2, 3, 4, 5; to perform operations with units such as inch, foot and yard, ounce, and pound.
Ability to communicate in simple sentences, using normal word order and present and past tense.
Ability to behave courteously to co-workers and customer, follow directions of supervisors and refrain from loud, aggressive or profane language and behavior in the workplace.
ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The incumbent is subject to the following working conditions:
both inside and outside environmental conditions,
high noise levels. Hearing protection is provided and is mandatory in this position.
close proximity to rapidly moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to heat,
standing for long periods of time on concrete floors,
exposure to atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system such as fumes, odors, dusts, etc.
The incumbent may be required to wear a respirator which will be furnished by the company.
Works one of the following shifts:
"C" Shift- Every other Wednesday, every Thursday, Friday & Saturdays, from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Plus some Extra overtime.
The incumbent works largely unsupervised, and must be able to ascertain what needs to be done and devise a system for successfully performing all job functions without the aid or constant or even infrequent supervision.
