Pathways is a progressive, transdisciplinary program that serves students who have various neurophysiological disorders, which affects their physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. This impacts their ability to move, learn and communicate in the same way as their typically developing peers. The modified common core curriculum will be highly individualized and tailored to each students’ learning needs which include but are not limited to: learning style, learning rate, and access.
We are committed to the learning of students with very high needs in most or all need areas, including academic, social and/or interpersonal development, physical development and management. Via the application of a high degree of individualized attention and intervention, very intense individual programming, continual adult supervision, and a program of physical, occupational and speech/language therapy, it is our mission to enable this under-served community to access the information and experience that will enable them to both understand and interact with their world.
We are seeking a Special Education Teacher for our Primary Class (K-5th Grade) looking to grow with a small school. The ideal candidate will have the following:
- 3-5+ years of experience
- experience teaching non-verbal, non-ambulatory children
- team player
- inherent belief that children with severe medical, physical and cognitive complexities can learn
- Self-starter who excels at follow-through
- Detail oriented
- outside of the box thinker
- knowledge of or ability to quickly learn low and tech AAC
We are a 12 month program, offer medical benefits and paid time off.
Responsibilities include:
- Plan, prepare and provide small group and 1:1 instruction to non-verbal, non-ambulatory students in grades K-5 aligned with Common Core Curriculum
- Be familiar with and incorporate various AAC devices and programs (i.e. Tobii Dynavox, PECS, Boardmaker Online)
- Be familiar with various educational classifications, the IEP process, IEP goal writing with Short Term Objectives
- Design and implement data collection to track IEP goal progress
- Participate in impartial hearing and/or settlement process from beginning to end (i.e. providing lawyers with documentation, testifying at impartial hearings, work with board members and lawyers)
- Maintain student progress and files (i.e. data collection, progress reports, session notes)
- Participate in after school events ( (i.e. Back to School Night, Parent Teacher Conferences, parent workshops/seminars)
- Participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences
- Plan and lead school-wide field trips
- Attend monthly meetings with teachers and therapists, coordinate and implement a highly individualized schedule tailored to students’ needs (includes coverage schedules)
- Develop and collect data for the academic curriculum for students with disabilities aged 5 – 21.
- Collaborate with the Related Services Staff to implement a transdisciplinary program and implement individualized student schedules
- Collaborate with Related Services to promote new community partnerships
- Attend events during and after school hours to promote the school
- Engage in professional development activities 2 hours a month
- Able to be trained as Testing Coordinator for NYSAA, NYS Standardized Testing and Regents Testing
- Administer NYSAA and Regents Testing

Pay: $78,000.00 - $88,000.00 per year
