The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and young adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, and community green spaces across the country.
Program Description:
Lower Granite Natural Resource Management Office is seeking two, 52-week interns to assist the Wildlife and Recreation team on site.
Task 1: Environmental Field Inspection and Restoration
SCA Interns are tasked with assisting Assist Project wildlife biologist and contract performance specialist during: Field inspections of multiple contractor activities on approximate 100 river mile Project footprint. Tree planting and other habitat restoration activities. Assisting in the development of mitigation/restoration plans related to daily management of footprint. Plans typically consist of restoration of lands due to fire, invasive weeds, wind damage, vandalism, and irrigation problems.
Task 2: Natural Resource and Recreation Management
SCA Interns are tasked with making continual efforts to keep USACE and partner agency managed parks and wildlife areas safe for outdoor recreation and for the visiting public, as well as, assisting park rangers, wildlife biologist and other USACE employees by performing routine tasks pertinent to the project's environmental stewardship/recreation management and public safety program.
Task 3: Responsibility
Oral instructions for accomplishing and completing work assignments are given by supervisor or higher graded employee. Receives direct supervision for special assignments and specific time frames for accomplishment. Obtains assistance or uses appropriate equipment or safety devices when lifting and moving very heavy objects. The supervisor checks work on a random basis for timeliness, work practices, and compliance with instructions.

- Member Qualifications:
- A valid driver's license.
- A personal vehicle is required.
- Ability to work on a team and independently.
- Interest in biology and experience with GIS and GPS systems.
- Desired Qualifications:Interest in contributing to the collection and analysis of natural resources to support conservation management practices.
- Interest and a willingness to learn to identify plant and wildlife species and their habitat.
Applicants will be evaluated based on application information, references, and the match of the applicant's skills with the needs of the field office.

- Must be eligible to serve as an AmeriCorps Member. This includes: Being a citizen, permanent resident, or national of the United States.
- Being at least 18 years or older.
- Having a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Being willing to undergo National Service Criminal History Check, including criminal background, sex offender and FBI checks.
