Job Summary: The Material Handler/Forklift Operator is responsible for the overall movement, storage, and organization of materials within the plant.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Load and unload materials from trucks, containers, or other transportation vehicles using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other equipment.
- Verify the accuracy of incoming shipments by inspecting and comparing items received with accompanying documentation (e.g., packing lists, purchase orders).
- Safely move materials within the facility, ensuring proper placement and organization to optimize storage space and accessibility.
- Prepare materials for production by staging them in designated areas or delivering them to the appropriate production lines.
- Maintain accurate inventory records by performing regular counts, reconciling discrepancies, and updating inventory systems or databases.
- Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with purchasing or production teams to ensure timely replenishment of materials.
- Operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, while following standard operating procedures.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment to ensure proper functioning and report any maintenance or safety issues to the maintenance team.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other departments regarding material needs or any issues related to material handling.
- Keep work area safe, clean, and organized.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of material handling equipment and techniques.
- Ability to operate forklifts or other warehouse machinery safely and efficiently.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems and basic computer skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience as a material handler or in a similar role within a warehouse or manufacturing environment is preferred.
Physical Job Requirements:
- Stand for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or balance
- Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Push/pull up to 100 lbs.
