Job Summary:
Under general direction of the Assistant General Manager, the Director of Production supports the Production Department for all shows and events presented at the AT&T Performing Arts Center venues and ancillary spaces, as well as Center presented events off campus. Leadership of production staff including Production Managers, Technical Director, and IA Crew Heads is required. In addition to performing the duties listed below concerning Production Management, this position will contribute to overall daily operations of all Center venues and to all Center initiatives. Extensive interdepartmental collaboration is expected. This position is exempt and will require an excess of 40 hours when required by management. Duties may be assigned or modified as needed by the Assistant General Manager.
This position requires a detail-oriented, highly organized team player with excellent interpersonal skills that work seamlessly and efficiently with AT&T Performing Arts Center staff and with end-users of the facilities. Essential skills include the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Must be a self-starter and work autonomously using independent judgment. A positive attitude towards the position and the Center's Core Values is imperative.
Position Responsibilities

Work with the Production Department, Patron Services & Events and others to achieve high-quality results in all technical aspects for a variety of events.

Advance the technical aspects of events as assigned. Coordinate with producing tenants regarding local conditions, venue characteristics and available labor and equipment within the terms of their contract.

Evaluate the crew and equipment requirements for events while considering budget, overall availability of Center resources and the time available to execute.

Creation and oversight of annual production opex and capex budgets and forecasting as required.

Translate these evaluations in to cost projections, budgets, crew calls and purchase and rental orders.

Identify, evaluate and implement processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Production Department in order to optimize revenue and/or reduce expenses.

Inform Assistant General Manager regarding current issues facing the Production Department, IATSE and any other relevant daily operational issues.

Support the Technical Director in determining yearly maintenance and inventory expectations and schedules and securing time to perform.

Establish strategies and be accountable for ensuring that all necessary technical, production and department information essential to the successful execution of each event has been accurately acquired and disseminated.

Develop and maintain a positive, productive relationship with IATSE ensuring proper implementation and interpretation of the contract is maintained.

Communicate event and department needs at appropriate meetings. Delegate duties and ensure that a task is understood, supervised and accomplished.

Recruiting, hiring and training of full time, part time and temporary technical staff as required. Cultivate a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and excellence.

Act as a Manager on Duty as required, supporting the use of the venues by resident or visiting companies, rental clients, third party vendors and crew. Attend performance events to monitor quality and troubleshoot issues.

Develop and implementation of Center policies and procedures.

Attend continuing education as recommended by management.

Participate in emergency management planning and emergency preparedness.

Complete and submit all required documentation including, but not limited to event reviews, expense reports, malfunction, incident and event reports for all Center events as needed.

Report any unsafe working conditions or practices to management.

Develop safety initiatives based on industry best practice and using OSHA, NFPA and others for guidance

Counsel and develop staffing through a variety of means; yearly reviews, professional development

Assist with producing and operating Center presented holiday, concert and film festivals. Coordinate budgets, equipment, staffing and participate in day-of-show needs.

Institute regular meetings with all resident companies to ensure all needs are being met.

This position has supervisory responsibilities of the senior production manager, production manager, assistant production manager, and technical director.

Bachelor’s degree in performing arts, arts management or equivalent experience.
-
Requires five to seven years’ experience in large-scale theatrical operations with both hands-on and supervisory skills in a variety of technical disciplines

Excellent understanding of all aspects of live entertainment production and processes including theatre, dance, concerts etc.

Exceptional leadership and organizational abilities.

Must have experience and proven skill at negotiating and implementation of union contracts.

Comprehensive problem-solving skills in a dynamic, high pressure show environment.

Able to exhibit appropriate professional and corporate demeanor, considerable tact and courtesy when interacting with members of the public and colleagues in a variety of situations.

Appropriate appearance and dress required at all times.

Available to work frequent long and varied hours including weekends and holidays.

Experience with Windows based programs, including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.

Experience with event-based software such as VenueOps and Tessitura a plus.

CAD/Vectorworks experience a plus.

ESTA/ETCP certifications a plus.
