Job Responsibilities:
The Traveling Construction Superintendent will serve as the onsite Superintendent, Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), and onsite Quality Control Manager (QCM) for B2 Constructors, who is the General Contractor. The Superintendent will supervise and manage subcontractors, oversee the daily construction activities, provide guidance for subcontractors, maintain schedule, issue accurate and detailed daily reports, conduct daily safety and quality control audits, coordinate with the owner and engineer, ensure a safe and secure worksite and proactively address problems. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Attending onsite meetings and often leading them
- Thoroughly review contract docs to understand project scope, drawings, and schedule fully
- Provide detailed daily reports with enough pics to detail the entire work area, including delays, unforeseen conditions, quality and/or safety issues, etc.
- Proactively develop, address, and track RFI’s to keep construction moving without delays or stoppages
- Make real-time updates to redline drawings and ensure subcontractors do the same
- Maintain a rolling punch list that clearly assigns responsibility and due dates
- Ensure subcontractors maintain schedule by identifying slippage and making necessary adjustments
- Maintain daily sign-in/sign-out sheets
- Conduct safety and quality control inspections and address safety concerns
- Continually inspect Subcontractor work to ensure compliance with submittals, plans, and specs
- Receive material deliveries, documenting and reporting any discrepancies
- Enforce safety standards and protocols for anyone working onsite supporting the project
- Lead daily morning meetings with Subcontractors and Owner
- Lead commissioning activities to ensure timely handover
- Be responsible for overall onsite construction success to include adherence to schedule and specs, quality control, change order tracking, communicating between owner, subcontractors, and B2 Constructors home office, daily reports, enforcing safety plan, shutdowns, disputes, commissioning, training, and handover
- Work with Project Managers on monthly Pay Applications, providing percent completes and schedule updates
Requirements:
- MUST be very detailed oriented, have excellent communication skills, and be able to submit daily progress reports along with photos (emphasis on DETAILED)
- MUST be well versed in all aspects of construction, especially in the areas of underground utilities, site work, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, concrete, paving, striping, and general construction trades
- MUST be highly proficient with computers and can navigate and learn new software in an efficient manner
- MUST be a self-starter and not require a management directive to accomplish their work, maintain a productive and safe worksite, lead subcontractors, and produce a quality project on schedule, within budget, and per the plans and specs
- MUST be able to think outside the box and bring a fresh mindset to address field issues, ensuring safety, efficiency, and project success
- Proficient in MS Office suite of programs, especially MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project
- 10+ years of commercial/industrial construction experience
- OSHA 30 certified within the last 5 years or the ability to become certified/recertified within 10 days of being hired
- 5+ years of Procore experience working for a General Contractor
- Consent to background investigation, drug screening, and three professional references
Strong Preference:
- 10+ years working for a Commercial General Contractor
- 7+ years of Project Management experien5+ years of Department of Veterans Affairs hospital construction experience
- 5+ years of Federal Government experience
- Current Army Corps of Engineers Quality Control Management certified
More About This Project:
The project site is located in Nashville, TN, at the Nashville VA Medical Center, and the scope includes the replacement of the existing Honeywell Building Management System (BMS) with a new Siemens BMS. This includes upgrading electrical panels throughout the hospital and doing low voltage work, including installation of fiber optic wiring, power wiring, and conduit. There will be a strong emphasis on planning and coordinating with the VA to ensure a successful project. The Superintendent will be very proactive in planning a 3-week look ahead for this project to ensure there are no slowdowns due to improper planning or notifications to the government, as some of the work is in critical spaces in the hospital where advance notifications are required to ensure there are no slowdowns in work.

When the Superintendent is between projects, you can live/stay wherever you prefer, as the daily work will involve working with the estimating and/or project management teams in preparation for the next project to start. The tasks and responsibilities here would include attending site visits to gather info needed for bidding, assisting lead estimators, engaging subcontractors both electronically and via phone, reviewing and vetting subcontractor bids, and helping lead estimators prepare the estimate.
