The Sanford-Springvale YMCA is currently looking for a qualified Assistant Preschool Teacher. The position we are looking to fill is in the afternoon with hours of one position generally being 8:00AM-5:30pm.
General Description:It is the responsibility of the Assistant Preschool Teacher to ensure a preschool program of the highest quality for both children and their parents. This will be demonstrated by following the standards set forth by the YMCA.
Essential Job Duties That Must Be Safely Performed With or Without Reasonable Accommodation:1. Assist in the day-to-day operations of an assigned child care program.
2. Provide the necessary support to the childcare teacher.
3. Ensure that assigned work areas remain clean, safe and well organized.
4. Assist in the development/implementation of a childcare quality assurance program.
5. Maintain open communication with management and parents.
6. Support the staff in marketing of the program and maximizing net revenue.
7. Assist in the development and implementation of lesson plans.
8. Maintain complete confidentiality of all information obtained on the children in the YMCA programs and all personnel information, including benefits and salary information.
9. Participate in childcare training and workshops to meet the state requirement of 12/24 hours a year.
10. Follow all policies in the parent handbook.
11. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Non-essential Job Duties: Attend staff meetings as required.Physical Demands/Hazards:
1. The position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling.
2. The position requires contact with members, families, facility staff, and the general public.
3. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
4. Must be able to lift and carry children up to 50 pounds in weight in a safe manner.
5. Must be able to lift and move tables, chairs, and large equipment (toys) up to 50 pounds.
Required Job Skills:1. Must be able to provide verbal/visual presentations to students.
2. Ability to work independently.
3. Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
4. Proven ability to relate effectively with coworkers, employees, parents and children of varying ages.
5. Represent the YMCA in a professional manner, projecting a positive and encouraging attitude.
Education/Experience:1. Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
2. Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
