OPERATING ROOM TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB SUMMARY
Prepares instruments and supplies to perform procedures according to the physician’s documented preferred routine. Prepares the operating field for procedures. Performs routine and delegated duties.

MENTAL DEMANDS

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities. Occasional overhead and low reaching. Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, to stand for long periods and to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly. All patient care activities may require the ability to exert force of up to 30 lbs. constantly, up to 40 lbs. occasionally and up to 100 lbs. rarely.

5.1. Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians preference cards.
5.2. Inspects equipment for proper working condition.
6. Performs operating room technician functions following prescribed operating/procedure room procedures and principles of aseptic technique.
6.1. Adheres to aseptic technique when opening sterile packages and preparing for procedures.
6.2. Arranges instruments according to routine for the scheduled procedure; confirms that instruments work properly.
6.3. Maintains availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays.
6.4. Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and responds according to Facility policy.
7. Correctly utilizes and cars for supplies and equipment as directly.
7.1. Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide availability and safety.
7.2. Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during procedures.
7.3. Assists in work areas by cleaning, storing, packaging and sterilizing instruments.
7.4. Assists with storing and stocking supplies as directed.
7.5. Maintains and updates instrument cards and surgeons’ preference cards.
8. Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician.
8.1. Documents records and other forms according to Facility policy.
8.2. Communicates information about the patient’s status to others responsible for patient care.
8.3. Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and directions.
