General Superintendent – Grading/Underground
Milbocker and Sons, Inc. is a road, underground utility, and bridge contractor based in Allegan, MI that specializes in MDOT and municipality work. The company started as a small family-owned business in 1968 with roughly 20 employees. Today, Milbocker has over 120 employees working on heavy civil construction projects throughout the state of Michigan. Typical projects range in size from $1 million to $20 million and include highway and bridge reconstruction, city streetscapes, underground utility installation (storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and watermain), box culvert installation, and more. Responsibilities
· Manage all field staff including foreman, operators, and laborers
· Ensure projects are constructed according to plans and specifications
· Track the progress of work on each job and make certain projects stay on schedule
· Recognize production issues and work with project foreman to implement the necessary changes to improve production
· Assist foreman with timing of material deliveries and subcontractors
· Determine equipment needs for each project and coordinate delivery with the yard superintendent
· Ensure all field staff have, and use, the proper safety equipment for the type of work they are performing, and that work complies with all safety regulations
· Work closely with union business agents to abide by all labor agreements in effect
· Interview and hire field staff as needed
· Layoff/terminate field staff as needed
· Communicate daily with project managers to determine specific project needs
· Work with project managers to obtain necessary permits for projects
· Obtain MissDig tickets to dig safely and legally
· Attend project progress meetings
Requirements
· A minimum of 15 years of experience in underground utility and road construction
· Understanding of construction equipment and their limitations to ensure safe operation
· Excellent communication skills
· Ability to get along with different personality types
· Strong leadership skills
· Manage stress and emotions effectively
· Great attention to detail
· Recognize and resolve conflicts
Compensation
· Salary based on experience ($95,000/year minimum)
· Performance based bonuses
