Miles Ahead Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter school authorized by the State Charter Schools Commission (SCSC) of Georgia serving grades K-5 in the 2024-2025 academic year. As an SCSC authorized school, Miles Ahead operates as a Local Educational Authority (LEA) and has a statewide attendance zone. Miles Ahead is committed to providing an educational opportunity students may not have been afforded outside of their local options.
Mission of Miles Ahead Charter School
Miles Ahead Charter School (MACS) is an authorized tuition-free, public school focused on student growth and academic achievement through a whole child approach to education. Our mission is to provide all students with the social and academic skills necessary to help them realize their potential for local impact and global change within a 21st century learning environment. Therefore, our vision is to prepare scholars to be knowledgeable, responsible individuals ensuring we live in a compassionate, digital society.
Overview of Position
Exceptional Child Paraprofessionals at MACS monitor the development, growth, and academic success of the scholars on their case loads. At MACS, all staff adjust instruction based upon the needs of scholars, and Exceptional Child Paraprofessional assist in the direction set forth by the Director of Exceptional Child Services (DECS) and/or Lead Teacher. Exceptional Child Paraprofessional must:
● Supports teachers in meeting the instructional, educational, behavioral, and social emotional needs of exceptional scholars in the classroom and community.
● Provides small group and/or individualized instruction to exceptional scholars in accordance with IEPs and the supervising teacher’s lesson plans.
● Collects instructional and behavioral data for all objectives being taught for each scholar.
● Implements Behavior Intervention Plans for students with disabilities.
● Have a basic knowledge of child development
● Leverage instructional practices to meet the academic, social-emotional, and growth needs of scholars.
● Effectively supervise children.
● Maintain accurate records related to student work samples and data.
● Communicate with scholar’s families related to their development and academic progress.
● Communicate with lead teachers and DECS about scholar development and academic progress.
Qualifications
● High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
● Willingness to complete Georgia’s Paraprofessional Program, or start path towards certification
● Experience working with a variety of children
● Interested in working across all aspects of a school: academic, operational, logistics, and finance
● Clear Criminal Background Check
● Authorized to Work in the United States
● Strong communication abilities
