Seafood Purchasing Manager
Overview:
At What Chefs Want, the Seafood Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring fresh seafood for wholesale distribution and for use in the seafood production department. Working with our team of seafood purchasers, this person is responsible for ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality seafood, maintaining relationships with suppliers, and assisting in the management of inventories and par levels. In collaboration with the sales staff, the seafood purchaser will monitor trends, communicate seasonal availability, and help cultivate a menu of options that will “WOW” chefs and restaurateurs. Knowledge of HACCP, proper food safety practices and the principle of” FIFO” are all necessary to maintain quality seafood products. Our goal is to excite new accounts with the accuracy and quality of our seafood, while exceeding the high standards of our existing business.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with the purchasing, production and sales team to forecast demand and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
- Working with the inventory team to conduct regular audits and maintain accurate records of stock levels, orders, and deliveries.
- Working with the receiving team, inspecting seafood deliveries to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
- Address and solve any quality issues with suppliers promptly.
- Work closely with the production team to maintain high standards for all seafood products.
- Maintain detailed records of purchases, supplier performance, and inventory levels.
- Prepare regular reports on purchasing activities, market trends, and inventory status for sales and management review.
- Ensure compliance with all documentation and reporting requirements related to seafood procurement.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 3-5 years of experience in seafood purchasing
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage accounts and understand their needs
