Audubon is currently seeking a Chief Inspector to join our team in Des Plains, Illinois. The Chief Inspector will possess strong initiative, be able to perform routine to complex inspection in the field and provide oversight and documentation of construction methods and contractor's operations in order to verify conformance to construction plans and specifications.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Applicants must reside within a 50-mile radius of Des Plains.
- Leadership role with full responsibility for quality of pipeline or facilities construction.
- Be a champion for quality by eliminating failures, procedures are strictly followed and ensuring total compliance.
- Responsible for establishing and implementation of Project's QA system for construction activities executed by direct hire of contractors and subcontractors.
- Manage QA activities performed by QA Leads and Inspectors.
- Responsible for conducting Quality Readiness Reviews; prior to commencement of new types of construction activities for Construction Superintendents, Project Managers, Field Engineers to ensure understanding of quality requirements and compliance.
- To lead others by providing daily direction to QA Leads. Conducts periodic staff meetings to provide direction and monitor progress/status of quality activities.
- Trouble shoot and problem solve issues under tight time constraints.
- Work closely with the client's project team and prime contractor and subcontractors regarding quality concerns.
- Manages preparation and implementation of procedures and instructions, as required, for performance of QA functions.
- Monitors the quality performance and overall progress of construction to ensure adherence to established requirements for quality.
- Maintains traceability to quality control records prepared in support of construction activities.
- Monitors activities of construction subcontractors to ensure materials, installation, and construction comply with established acceptance criteria.
- Prepare monthly quality reports on contractor performance and provide feedback to contractors.
- Ensure compliance to Client's Project Quality Management Plan.
- Coordinate all PHMSA/NEB visits; receive and answer PHMSA requests for information during and after site visits. Reply to any PHMSA/NEB notes non-compliances and all regulatory authorities.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 10 years of field quality experience related to major construction projects.
- Expertise and/or certification with one or more of the following disciplines- NACE, NDE (RT, UT)
- Welding Inspection, pipeline and/or facilities construction.
- Certification in Quality or Quality work experience.
- Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) with American Society for Quality (ASQ) is desirable.
- Strong understanding of quality management systems (IS09000) and be able to implement the system (materials control, non-conformance reporting, corrective action, and documentation) to employees and contractors of varying levels and skill sets.
- Strong Project Management, process and procedural skills.
- Supervisory skills and interpersonal skills to interact with people on the project including contractors and subcontractors.
- Able to analyze data, produce project reports, and interpret results with proper conclusions and recommendations.
- Solid understanding of applicable US pipeline and facility specification.
- Has been trained in and understands the client's system.
- Knowledge and understanding of welding and coating procedures and specifications.
- Walking, standing, sitting, bending, lifting.
- Inside and Outside in inclement climates.
