Senior CMT Engineer

Technical Activities:
- Plan and determine scope, resources, schedule, and budget requirements for major and/or complex projects
- Independently design and/or lead the charge to complete major projects
- Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to evaluate, select, and apply techniques, procedures, and analyses
- Calculate material properties from a variety of data sources
- Use software to gather test and inspections results
- Perform data reduction, analysis & fieldwork for commercial, industrial, retail, government, office and residential projects
- Prepare and review field, laboratory, and engineering reports
- Perform field testing when required to provide engineering recommendations on projects through construction as needed
- Review and sign CMT reports
- Perform field inspection, sampling & testing of soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, etc.
- Perform Special Inspections (CMU Masonry, Concrete Reinforcement, Light Gauge Metal Framing, and Wood Framing)
- Lead complex engineering consultations, diving deep into client technical queries that require expertise.
Project Management:
- Assist senior management in implementing business programs, and may manage organizational programs under the direction of senior management
- Manage large materials testing projects
- Assisting with project management & reporting
- Manage field changes
- Close out projects
Client and Stakeholder Relations:
- Generate leads, pursue new opportunities, and develop new markets/clients
- Build and maintain client relationships, work to identify and understand client needs, and manage client expectations
- Perform construction support services, including assisting client with bid activities and interacting and coordinating with contractors/inspectors/agencies,
- Assist clients with risk evaluation and asset management
- Prepare and review proposals
- Prepare project proposals and assist with Business Development activities
- Partner with the Geotechnical and PPI departments to provide service to clients
- Cultivate strong relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies, serving as the primary technical point of contact for all CMT-related inquiries and initiatives
- Represent the organization in communications and conferences pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments
Operational Excellence and Development:
- Collaborate closely with the CMT Director, tracking the department annual business plan, and vision
- Spearhead the training and development of CMT personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth
- Develop and refine departmental procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance, leveraging expertise in civil engineering principles and practices
- Develop new techniques and/or improved processes
- Organize insightful training sessions, keeping lab managers updated on tests, procedures, and equipment.
- Partner with the Geotechnical team and PPI team to refine technical processes.
- Provide guidance to the drilling department on geotechnical concerns and field changes to drilling scopes
- Mentor technicians and lab personnel.
- Train staff on use of specialty software or proprietary applications
- Stay abreast of technological advancements and industry trends in construction materials testing and quality assurance, integrating innovative practices into divisional operations
- Participate in at least one professional and one technical organization, ensuring you stay at the forefront of industry innovations.
- Maintain licensure and certifications as required to ensure that all testing and quality assurance activities adhere to professional engineering standards and ethics
Site Supervision and Quality Assurance:
- Head the CMT Laboratory, setting the standard for CMT staff.
- Champion consistency in every role aspect, ensuring that we always meet the highest benchmarks.
- Mentor the team in preparation for future challenges
- Manage technical staff to build a high performing team that delivers an exceptional work product
- Lead team and project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments
- Assign tasks to and directs junior consultants and technicians
- Supervise one or more technical staff
- Visit project sites (as required) and laboratory operations to observe, inspect, and document issues
- Review completed project documents and records for conformity and quality assurance
- Promote safe work habits and require member adherence to project safety requirements including local office safety compliance and employee training
Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
- Professional Engineering license in Florida
- Professional Engineering license in Georgia, preferred
- Certifications in ACI and/or ICC such as Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Post Tensioned Concrete
- Additional certifications a plus
- 8 or more years of increasing responsibility and experience in Construction Materials Testing engineering
- Expert-level knowledge of engineering concepts, theories and practices as applied to slope stability, seepage analysis, seepage control, and dam and levee design
- Proficient in the review and preparation of reports, plans, specifications, and estimates
- Experience in project management on multi-disciplinary teams, and business and client development
- Management experience
- Computer savvy
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Office, and similar computer programs
- Knowledge of specialized computer analysis programs (e.g., GeoStudio, Mathcad, etc.)
- Valid state driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record
