GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Responsible administrative, technical, supervisory and skilled mechanical work in directing the operation of
repair and maintenance services for all vehicles, including solid waste, trucks, construction equipment and
other motorized equipment. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Public Works.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Supervises and coordinates the daily maintenance and repair of light vehicles, pick-ups,
motorcycles, trucks, heavy construction/maintenance equipment, sanitation vehicles, and all other
miscellaneous motorized equipment.
2. Provides technical assistance in work problems encountered by staff.
3. Supervises the training of new employees and recommends employees for specialized training
courses. Interviews prospective job applicants; enforces rules and is responsible for division rules
and regulations and other personnel matters.
4. Evaluates employee performance; recommends hiring, firing, employee discipline and other
personnel actions; and helps establish safety measures against occupational hazards.
5. Investigates accidents and reports to the Director of Public Works with recommendations for
vehicle disposal and replacement.
6. Prepares preliminary budgets, standard and special reports and provides other administrative
duties as needed or directed.
7. Manages contracts with outside vendors for several important services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of modern methods of maintaining, repairing automotive, road construction and other
motorized tools, implements heavy and light equipment.
- Basic knowledge of the operating principles and maintenance of both gasoline and diesel powered
engines.
- Ability to plan, assign, inspect and supervise the servicing, repairing and maintenance of all
equipment, whether it be in preventive maintenance or repairs.
- Ability to keep an accurate inventory record of parts and services applied to each vehicle.
- Ability to keep and maintain vehicle operating and maintenance cost records.
