We’re looking for several thoughtful, enthusiastic and reliable team members to work in one of our many programs. The ideal candidate will be a careful listener who is able to use their lived experience to engage, inspire, and facilitate meaningful conversations to help others meet their own mental illness and/or addictive disorder recovery goals. Peer Support Specialist positions are community-based and support coping, problem-solving, and emotional well-being. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications of Peer Support Specialist by Office of Behavioral Health https://ldh.la.gov/page/peer-support-specialist and be able to obtain their certificates of completion from the Peer Support Specialist Training within three months of employment.
Responsibilities
· Provide support to individuals receiving services in identifying goals, accessing resources, connecting to employment or housing.
· Assist staff in maintaining an environment that supports a recovery-focused approach.
· Utilize Motivational Interviewing techniques and other evidence-based practices to engage individuals in services.
· Complete progress notes in the agency electronic health record on the day of service for all services provided, including phone calls.
· Earn and maintain Peer Support Specialist certification.
Qualifications & Skills
· Minimum two years sustained recovery from substance use or behavioral health
· Ability and willingness to share lived experiences with the individuals our programs serve
· Willingness to train and maintain Peer Support Specialist Certification
- US work authorization
- Background screening required

- Outstanding interpersonal skills to communicate and interact effectively at different levels with different audiences
- Ability to work in a culturally competent way and consistently treat all with dignity and respect
- Great time management with organizational skills required to set priorities and manage workload
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR)
