POSITION: Health & Mental Health Coordinator for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs
LOCATION: Miami, FL 33135
STATUS: Full-Time Exempt with Full Benefits (M-F, 8 hour shift)
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Program Director, Coordinator is responsible for the Health & Mental Health service areas according to the Head Start Performance Standards and Guidelines. This staff member is responsible for providing training for all Head Start/EHS teaching personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Manages the health and mental health component according to Head Start Performance Standards, in conjunction with the Mental Health Consultant;
- Supervises mental health consultant hours & develop their monthly reports which tracks hours/services delivered.
- Plans and implements training for staff, parents and others involved in the Head Start Program;
- Reviews and evaluates existing programs in conjunction with parents, council members and staff to ensure compliance with performance standards and regulations;
- Conducts regular visits of Head Start/ Early Head Start classes to observe classroom activities, provide on-site consultation, determine training needs of educational personnel, and to inspect facilities for compliance with health, safety, fire and occupancy regulations;
- Maintains a communication system that provides a means of transmitting information to Head Start/ Early Head Start teachers about new teaching methods, teaching techniques and other information relevant to preschool education with regards to Mental Health/ Social-Emotional well being;
- Develops equipment and materials purchasing plan according to program needs;
- Initiates and monitors the administration of all developmental tests and screenings including Vision & Hearing, DECA, ASQ 3, ASQ SE, PLS-5.
- Implements and supervises program practices which promote the healthy social and emotional development of all children, including children with disabilities.
- Provides health and safety guidance to center staff regarding how to design/implement program practices which are responsive to identified social, emotional & behavioral mental health concerns of individual child/group utilizing Program selected approaches
- Plans and conducts regular meetings and/or conferences including: Individual staff supervision meetings, Center staff meetings, and Parent conferences with the family workers and/or disabilities component as needed.
- Keeps adequate meeting documentation including: agenda, sign in sheets and handouts.
- Attends and participates in administrative meetings as needed; Evaluates IEP and IFSPs for disability in conjunction with the disability coordinator
- Attends all CAHSD Mental Health/ Health meetings and properly share all information with the site staff.
- Review due dates/follow-up documentation.
- Promotes maximum participation of parents in the classroom activities including curriculum to increase their understanding of child growth and development by: contacting parents throughout the year as questions and need arise; providing assistance, encouragement, and on-the-job training to parents and community volunteers that provides a means of transmitting information to Head Start centers about new teaching methods, teaching techniques and other information relevant to preschool education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Studies, Elementary Education, Psychology, Health or relevant field; one to two years’ experience in a Head Start setting preferred;
- DCF Childcare Training is required (may be completed within first 3 months of hire)
- Level 2 DCF background clearance,
- Certificate of Good Health and TB test,
- Drug test
