Summary:
The Safety Director is responsible for overseeing the safety and compliance of all trucking, warehousing, and rail operations. This role ensures adherence to DOT and FRA regulations, implements safety protocols, and maintains a culture of safety within the organization
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Program Development:
- Design, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs and policies and procedures in line with DOT and FRA regulations.
- Develop and maintain safety manuals, guidelines, and training programs.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations, particularly DOT standards.
- Monitor and interpret changes in transportation safety regulations and update company policies accordingly.
- Incident Management:
- Lead investigations of transportation-related accidents and incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed records of all incidents, injuries, and safety violations.
- Training and Education:
- Conduct regular safety training sessions for employees and contractors, focusing on transportation safety and DOT regulations.
- Develop educational materials and programs to promote a culture of safety within the organization.
- Audits and Inspections:
- Perform regular safety audits and inspections of transportation equipment and facilities.
- Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory agencies during inspections and compliance reviews.
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
- Oversee the maintenance and inspection of equipment and facilities to ensure a safe working environment.
- Risk Management:
- Identify potential transportation safety hazards and implement strategies to mitigate risks.
- Develop and enforce protocols for emergency response and accident prevention.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and submit required safety reports to regulatory agencies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, logs, and documentation.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor the safety team, providing guidance and support to ensure high standards of safety performance.
- Collaborate with other departments to promote and integrate safety practices company wide.
Qualifications:
- A degree in safety management or relevant field is preferred
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a safety management role, preferably within the transportation industry.
- Extensive knowledge of DOT and FRA regulations, as well as warehousing and logistics industry standards.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing safety programs and policies within a 3PL or similar logistics environment.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH) is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
