Job title: Project Manager - Information Technology (Newark Light Rail Project Lead)
Location: Newark, NJJob summary: * NJ State Client Innovation seeks a Project Manager for the Connected Assets project on Newark Light Rail.
- Manage Broadband Backbone, Mesh Network, Mobile Edge Compute Devices, and custom microservices.
- Requires strong IT project management, IoT/hardware, and software development lifecycle experience.
- Responsibilities: translate proof-of-concept into requirements, facilitate RFP, select vendors, oversee implementation.
- Collaborate with NJ TRANSIT Operating Agencies and partners to ensure project success.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Planning
- Lead translation of built architecture into requirements.
- Assist in defining project scope, objectives, and success criteria.
- Manage end-to-end project delivery within scope, budget, resources, milestones, and timeline.
- Identify, assess, and prioritize risks with mitigation strategies.
- Ensure stakeholder interests are aligned and visible.
- Management
- Lead a cross-functional project team (IT professionals, engineers, designers, subject matter experts).
- Align tasks, expectations, and responsibilities.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Develop and manage the budget, tracking expenditures.
- Optimize resource allocation to meet project timelines.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
- Stakeholder/Cross-Departmental Communication
- Maintain clear and open communication with stakeholders.
- Provide project updates, status reports, and progress presentations.
- Address concerns, manage expectations, and ensure stakeholder engagement.
- Project Execution
- Oversee daily task execution, resolve conflicts, and ensure timeline adherence.
- Monitor risks, issues, and dependencies, implementing mitigation strategies.
- Adjust progress milestones as necessary to stay on track.
- Quality Assurance
- Define and communicate quality standards for deliverables.
- Implement testing and quality control processes.
- Conduct reviews and audits to ensure best practices.
- Documentation
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including plans, reports, and communications.
- Post-Project Evaluation
- Conduct post-project reviews to evaluate success against objectives.
- Identify lessons learned and potential improvements.
- Capture stakeholder and team feedback.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience in Transportation, Engineering, and ITS; Professional Engineer (P.Eng/PE) certification is a plus.
- Proven IT Project Manager experience in the transit industry; PMP certification or equivalent.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
- Experience managing IoT projects integrating hardware and software across multiple locations.
- Transit-specific software and systems experience is a plus.
- Ability to work in matrixed organizations; Cloud and DevOps certifications are a plus.
