POSITION SUMMARY: The Research Analyst will assist with strategic analytical work on existing and proposed policies, regulations, legislation, and tribal-related matters. This position coordinates closely with the Cultural Resources and Government Affairs Managers and the Tribe’s Legal Department on research assignments. The Government Affairs Department works directly for the Tribal Council.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Research, tracks, monitors, and documents local, state, and federal policy, land-use, and governmental matters.
· Identifies opportunities and learns from projects, makes appropriate connections to other departments, and implements information sharing protocols.
· Attends and monitors local board governmental meetings and participates in local government and community activities.
· Compiles and organizes data and prepares reports in preparation for presentations.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college and three years of experience working on public policy, political affairs, or research within a government, nonprofit or private organization. Being familiar with Native American history and current issues important to the Tribe and Indian Country is desired.
Communication and Comprehension Skills
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse staff, stakeholders, and government officials.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, and governmental documentation and regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policies/procedures within specific parameters and formats. Excellent English, grammar, and spelling skills are required.
Computer Skills
Must be computer literate and proficient in multiple functions within Microsoft Office’s word processing, spreadsheets, calendaring, and database applications. Proficient in Adobe PDF full version and other relevant software programs (Google Earth, etc.)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Individuals must be able to successfully pass the Tribal Gaming Agency (TGA) Background Check. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record satisfactory to the Tribe’s insurance carrier.
