Director of Public Policy & Government Relations
The Washington County Chamber of Commerce represents 850+ member businesses. The Chamber is Washington County's leading business advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening our economy and quality of life through job creation, workforce development, infrastructure investment and business development.
Position
The Director of Public Policy & Government Relations reports to the President. This is a salaried exempt position with full benefits, including paid sick leave, vacation, 401(k) participation, life insurance, health, and dental. The Chamber has a 32-hour work week offering one flex day per week.
Job Description
Oversees issue development for the Chamber and advises the president & CEO on setting the Chamber’s public policy priorities and strategies.
Leads the public policy advocacy efforts at all levels of government.
Manages the Chamber’s public policy committee, industry task forces and other special programs.
Coordinates and manages all aspects of the Washington County Chamber’s Day at the Capitol in Salem.
Responsible for developing and achieving the business plan and budget for the division.
Represents the Chamber on various steering committees and policy planning groups.
Coordinates with the Brand Manager/Communications Director on press/marketing strategies.
Develops monthly Business Perspective e-news to members and stakeholders regarding timely information on advocacy efforts.
Assists with membership recruitment, development and retention efforts.
Serves as the staff Liaison for the Veteran's Business Advisory Council.
Works with the president & CEO and Board of Directors on other matters, as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned by the President.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in public policy field.
Minimum of two-years’ experience in political, government affairs or related industry
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with staff supervision, project management, policy analysis and issue development
Ability to provide excellent customer service and be a team player
Ability to develop and manage department budget
Ability to produce a large quantity of work at high quality
Demonstrated ability to work well with volunteers and staff at all levels
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
