POSITION SUMMARY :
Perform selected nursing and administrative/clerical duties that assist in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management under the direction of a physician. These duties are delegated in relation to the individual's degree of training, in accordance with the objectives and policies of the organization and respective state laws governing such action and activities.
POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS :
- High School/GED preferred
- Certification obtained from an accredited Medical Assistant program, required
- BLS certification required, or must be obtained within 90 days of hire
- Excellent customer service skills
- Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to learn practice management software
- Good written and verbal communication skills required
- Bilingual – English/Spanish
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :
- Two (2) years experience in a busy clinic setting most desirable
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
- Record patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height as required
- Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies
- Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies, as needed
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician
- Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patients
- Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures
- Collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing
- Return calls to patients as needed
- Complete messages daily as received through the computer
- Make appointments or reschedule appointments as needed
- Assist all providers in the office as needed
- Cross train on all office duties

CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Provide excellent customer service to all DHR customers. All employees are required to attend the DHR C.A.R.E.S program which outlines the Customer Service Principals including: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service.
AGE SPECIFIC :
Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age.
